The Position
The Opportunity The Senior Director, Strategy & Innovation Head drives enterprise initiatives that integrate Population Health (PH) strategy, bridging gaps in patient experience, access, and outcomes. This leader oversees a strategic team, championing a portfolio of PH initiatives and developing new capabilities in Health Literacy and Experiential Patient Insights, ensuring alignment with business priorities and lasting impact. Reporting to the Population Health CoE Head, they apply design thinking and patient insights to expand access, improve understanding, and enable better patient outcomes. This includes developing innovative approaches for underserved populations, strengthening clinical research representation, and integrating the patient voice into Genentech's care delivery. The role leverages cultural and historical expertise to deliver innovative therapeutics to more patients. Key Responsibilities Strategic Alignment & Integration
Translate enterprise Population Health priorities into initiative strategies and frameworks, defining strategic requirements and success measures, and integrating patient and community insights into initiative design. Drive innovative programs to reach underserved patients across the United States, implementing transformative approaches to clinical study representation and inclusive healthcare delivery.
Leadership of Population Health Initiatives
Serves as a visible leader and advocate for Population Health initiatives, championing approaches that embed patient and community insights and fostering shared understanding and commitment across the enterprise. Oversees a team, providing strategic guidance and operational support to ensure initiatives are designed for relevance, feasibility, and measurable impact, with clear connections to enterprise goals, and guides the incubation of new approaches for integration into core business operations.
Program Support - Flagship Initiatives
Collaborate with initiative leads to develop cross-functional playbooks, toolkits, and localized action plans for flagship programs like Trailblazers, ensuring program resources are designed for adaptability across markets and functional teams.
Governance, Measurement & Progress Tracking
Own the definition of strategic requirements and outcome measures for initiatives, ensuring they reflect enterprise priorities, working closely with the Data, Decision & Analytics (DDA) team to define outcome measures, build analytics approaches, and assess the impact of initiatives, and updating the CoE Head and Population Health Leadership Team on progress, risks, and outcomes, while ensuring direct reports leverage DDA data and insights to refine initiatives, prioritize resources, and demonstrate enterprise impact.
Continuous Improvement & Team development
Identify and address barriers to initiative success, while building, mentoring, and developing a high-performing team to foster a culture of collaboration, creativity, and impact, ensuring relevant, feasible, and scalable initiatives across the enterprise.
Who you are Required Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Business, Public Health, Policy, or a related field. 15+ years of experience in biopharma, healthcare, or related sectors with significant leadership in strategy design, enterprise initiatives, or population health-related work. Demonstrated success designing and implementing enterprise-wide frameworks or initiatives with measurable business and reputational impact. Proven leadership, program management, and cross-functional influence skills, with the ability to operate effectively in a matrixed environment. Strong track record of working across commercial, medical, access, and enabling functions to integrate new priorities into core business planning.
Preferred Qualifications & Experience
Advanced degree in Business, Public Health, Policy, or a related field. Experience managing pilots, learning cycles, and scaling initiatives from incubation to enterprise ownership. Experience in supporting capability-building efforts in areas such as health literacy or patient engagement. Demonstrated ability to drive change management by articulating strategic imperatives, inspiring leaders, building new capabilities, and ensuring effective operational infrastructure. Experience helping senior leaders align local objectives with enterprise-wide priorities. Experience using measurement and analytics to guide initiative refinement and prove impact.
Travel Requirements The position is located in South San Francisco. The position may require up to 25% time traveling. The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, CA is $204,900 - 380,500. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
