This full-time opportunity offers 40 hours per week and full benefits.

Prairie St. John's has been providing services for children, adolescents, and adults to address behavioral health and substance use challenges since 1997. Prairie offers inpatient hospitalization, day treatment, and intensive outpatient services. Accredited by The Joint Commission, we are the largest, freestanding behavioral health facility in the region. More than 4,000 patients receive care from our compassionate health care team each year at Prairie St. John's.

Job Duties:

  • Directly oversees all staff and nursing services provided in assigned units. Articulates and operationalizes the Nursing Department vision, mission and philosophy. Demonstrates support for the departmental strategic plan and provides leadership for establishing unit vision that is consistent with organizational direction and goals.
  • Establishes, maintains, and oversees all functions, policies, procedures, practices, and tools related to nursing services. Maintains 24 hour accountability for the unit and staff. Meets regulatory changes, Identifies areas of needed focus for process improvement initiatives, and increases the productivity and effectiveness.
  • Ensures compliance with Nurse Practice Act, Joint Commission and CMS standards. Audits patient care for compliance and effectiveness. Follows up with Nursing Staff to educate and ensure compliance with standards of care, environment of care, safety, security, infection control and emergency management procedures are followed by department staff. Maintains survey readiness throughout the assigned unit at all times.
  • As department leader, the Nurse Manager is responsible for interviewing and staff selection, developing the training and implementation of orientation plans for each employee, performance evaluations, provide coaching and feedback and retention of nursing staff assigned to the units. The Nurse Manager must be effective in applying consistent employment practices and integrating nursing services with other disciplines. The Nurse Manager collaborates with the Staffing Coordinator regarding staffing needs and scheduling; reviewing and responding to nursing staff requests for time off for vacations, conferences, leaves of absences as well as requests to change shifts.
  • Able to facilitate effective groups, both for nursing and interdisciplinary groups.
  • Includes maintaining an environment of fairness and processes to support it.
  • Provide excellent customer service.
  • Able to secure and maintain necessary equipment supplies pertinent to service unit.
  • Provides direct care to patients and family through patient and family support and education with goal of enhancing patient and family functioning.
  • Ensures effective patient care by maintaining regular contact and communication with treatment teams, Medical Director, Clinical Services Director, Director of Nursing and other Nursing Supervisors.
  • Investigates grievances, compliance issues, incomplete/inconsistent documentation, medication errors, near misses, and incidents; communicates findings to appropriate employees; and implements training or process changes and communicates all matters to the Director of Nursing and designee.
  • Responsible for staff selection, evaluation, scheduling, training and retention including, providing effective, positive direction to staff; meeting regularly with staff to discuss processes and goals and modifications to meet changing needs.
