What to Expect

Consider before submitting an application:

This position is expected to start around January 2026 and continue through the Winter/Spring term (ending approximately May 2026) or continuing into Summer 2026 if available and there is an opportunity to do so. We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks, full-time and on-site, for most internships. Our internship program is for students who are actively enrolled in an academic program. Recent graduates seeking employment after graduation and not returning to school should apply for full-time positions, not internships.

International Students: If your work authorization is through CPT, please consult your school on your ability to work 40 hours per week before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week on-site. Many students will be limited to part-time during the academic year.

Tesla is looking for a display electrical engineering intern for the development and qualification of LCD/OLED displays for Tesla's vehicles infotainment system. This individual will be working on LCD/OLED display system development at the component and system level to drive design optimization, serving as a focal point between Studio, Software, Global Supply Management, Supplier Quality, Reliability, Tesla factory, and the display suppliers, managing all activities necessary from initial concept to production to deliver displays into Tesla vehicles.


What You'll Do
  • Design and define the display/touch electronics system driving board for new display projects, including creating block diagram, schematics, and layout designs

  • Simulations such as ANSYS SIwave, PowerSI for signal integrity, power delivery, and thermal profiles

  • Build SPICE Sim models like, Spectre / HSPICE to model TFT as MOS switch and capacitor network

  • Debug driving system failures, identify the root cause and implement improvements such as model mismatch, parasitics, or layout variance

  • Collaborate with members from design, mechanical engineering, firmware, electrical engineering, touch technology, and other areas of expertise

  • Perform display measurement (high-speed, IR drop and hotspot), testing and failure analysis, and review results from display vendors, module vendors, and cross-functional teams at Tesla to ensure performance specifications are met


What You'll Bring
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Physics, or a related field
  • Understanding of display measurement, color science, performance evaluation, display technologies, display module construction, process development, and display electronic systems Familiar with optical measurement equipment, data acquisition and visualization of insightful results including image quality, lifetime compensation
  • Experience with analog and digital circuit design and PCBA
  • Experience with PCB component selection
  • Exceptional organization and communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Experience in MATLAB, Python, C/C++ or equivalent tools for modeling and analysis
  • Basics of serial communication protocols (CAN, Ethernet,SPI, I2C,etc.)

    Expected Compensation
    $20.00 - $50.00/hour + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
