Job Description

The Team Lead Machinist assembles, repairs, and fabricates metal parts by operating mechanical equipment. Interpret drawing and read operation sheets for operation, material and dimensional requirements. Performs a variety of complicated tasks. The Team Lead provides guidance, instruction, direction and leadership to their assigned team for the purpose of meeting company's goals and objectives. The Team Lead monitors the quantitative and qualitative achievements of the team and reports results to a manager. The leader often works within the team, as a member, carrying out the same roles but with the additional 'lead' responsibilities.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Measure dimensions of finished work pieces to ensure conformance to specifications, using precision measuring instruments, templates, and fixtures.
  • Serve as Liaison for Team Members and Management/Engineering.
  • Ensure Team Members are actively engaged in meeting production goals; Motivate workers to enhance production quantity and at the same time maintain high production standards.
  • Remove and replace dull cutting tools.
  • Mount, install, align, and secure tools, attachments, fixtures, and workpieces on machines, using hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
  • Listen to machines during operation in order to detect sounds such as those made by dull cutting tools or excessive vibration and adjust machines to compensate for problems.
  • Adjust machine feed and speed, change cutting tools, or adjust machine controls when automatic programming is faulty or if machines malfunction.
  • Stop machines to remove finished workpieces, or to change tooling, setup, or workpiece placement, according to required machining sequences.
  • Lift workpieces to machines manually, or with hoists or cranes.
  • Modify cutting programs to account for problems encountered during operation and save modified programs.
  • Calculate machine speed and feed ratios, and the size and position of cuts.
  • Insert control instructions into machine control units to start operation.
  • Move material, tools, fixtures and equipment as required.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to Team Members through problem solving and coaching.
  • Engage with Team Members to determine training needs.
  • Identify areas of improvement needed within respective department, in order to foster a continuous improvement environment.
  • Evaluate manufacturing equipment for safety and functionality.
  • Adhere to safety and compliance rules and regulations; hold the team accountable to follow safety guidelines, as well, including utilizing proper PPE for their role/position.
  • Ensure proper maintenance and/or housekeeping of work area to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Perform other duties, as required.
