Reporting to the Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor, the Dean of Lloyd International Honors College (
LIHC) provides academic and administrative leadership for the Honors College and oversees the Residential Colleges (RCs), the Undergraduate Research, Scholarship, and Creativity Office (
URSCO), and the Global Engagement Office (
GEO). |
Position Summary |
The Dean establishes the goals, strategic objectives, and strategies that successfully carry out the
LIHC mission and those of its constituent areas of responsibility. To accomplish these ends, the Dean is responsible for providing a challenging and nurturing learning environment sustained using innovative pedagogy, global/internationally oriented competitive curricula, and effective academic advising for Honors students that brings them together with UNCG's faculty through coursework and undergraduate research. Further, the Dean develops and maintains vibrant cultural and intellectual opportunities designed to motivate and inspire students to perform at the highest levels and to become knowledgeable and effective leaders.
The Dean is a member of the Provost's Council, a body comprised of all of the Provost's direct-reports, including the Senior Vice Provost, Vice Provosts, College/School deans, Dean of University Libraries, Dean of the Graduate School, Vice Chancellor for Research and Engagement, and Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, as well as the leadership of Enrollment Management, Information Technology Systems, the Weatherspoon Art Gallery and Provost Fellows. This body meets with the Provost to share information, address challenges and opportunities, and build relationships across a wide spectrum of constituencies, internally and externally. LIHC's Dean chairs the Honors Council, which serves as the curriculum and advisory board for the Honors College.
The Dean's other duties include, but are not limited to the following:
- Recruitment of UNCG faculty to teach and provide other service in the Honors College, the RCs, URSCO, and GEO.
- Implementation of strategies to maintain high retention, persistence, and graduation rates among Honors students.
- Provision of a comprehensive academic curriculum that serves students in all LIHC programs.
- Recommendation to the Provost of new programs that can enhance the size and quality of the Honors College, the RCs, URSCO, and GEO.
- Promotion of the LIHC's visibility on campus and off, including creating partnerships and events with other educational, research, and cultural bodies and associations.
- Fostering a close working relationship with UNCG's Global Engagement Office, to ensure a significant percentage of Honors students study abroad on either faculty-led short term or semester long programs.
- Supervision of the LIHC's administration, including the hiring, termination, and evaluation of staff members, including those in the RCs, URSCO, and GEO and the assignment of their duties.
- Oversight of the LIHC budget, including those of the RCs, URSCO, and GEO.
- Maintenance of an Honors College admissions process that includes the recruitment of both Global Honors and Disciplinary Honors students, in coordination with UNCG's Office of Admissions, identification of talented prospective students for the university, and participation in admissions and scholarship recruitment activities on campus.
- Development and implementation of assessment procedures in LIHC, the RCs, URSCO, and GEO as required by the University.
- Administration of residential facilities for Honors College students as well as the RCs (in close collaboration with Housing and Residence Life and Facilities Management).
- Assistance with University efforts to garner gifts and outside funds for the Honors programs as well as the Residential Colleges, usually achieved through close cooperation with University Advancement.
- Development and maintenance of the LIHC's social media and web presence, as well as those of the RCs, URSCO, and GEO.
- Maintenance of data-collection systems in LIHC, the RCs, URSCO, and GEO.
- Service on University committees either as assigned or by virtue of ex officio status.
- Execution of other duties as directed by the Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor.

Minimum Qualifications |
- Ph.D. or terminal degree (e.g., MFA) in academic field of study represented at UNCG.
- Current appointment to the UNCG faculty.
- Three years of higher education experience in a significant administrative leadership capacity (e.g. as department head, program director, director of undergraduate/graduate studies, research laboratory head, etc.).
- Demonstrated commitment to undergraduate teaching and honors education through working with high-achieving students.
- Experience with budgeting at the department or program levels, or oversight of large federally funded grants.

- Record of scholarly achievement meriting appointment at the rank of associate or full professor.
- Visionary and creative leadership with experience in global/international education and faculty-led undergraduate research.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for working with academic leadership, faculty, staff, alumni, students, and external partners.
- Experience in fundraising, development, and cultivating alumni and donor relations.
- Experience with recruitment and retention of high-achieving students.
