Job Summary
The Dispatch and Logistics Specialist is responsible for delivering high performance transportation management solutions for the movement of trucks and freight between ocean terminals, warehouses and railroad ramps by directing the pickup and delivery activities of drivers and trucking/intermodal vendors.
Primary Objectives
- Prioritize, coordinate, and schedule deliveries for multiple business units for assigned locations.
- Analyze, track, and monitor Key Performance Metrics.
- Deliver high quality customer service to enable timely and efficient movement of trucks, autos, and freight.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Dispatch and monitor containerized cargo using appropriate communication methods to ensure accurate, timely and cost-effective freight movement.
- Update computer systems and Transportation Management Systems (TMS) and maintain daily performance records, control logs, and dispatch-related file systems.
- Confirm and update accurate E.T.A. information, voyage cut-off requirements, and provide advance notification of early arrivals to advance vehicles from future voyages.
- Prepare daily schedules of trucking and intermodal work; Schedule and select sub-contracted drivers based on need.
- Avoid storage and per diem charges through adherence to vendor interchange policy agreements and
- Develop, recommend, and implement as directed best practices related to departmental process flows.
- Track and monitor Key Performance Metrics which may include drayage costs, per diem, and transit time.
- Collaborate with other Liner support teams to maintain customer relationships. Establish and maintain high levels of customer service and touch points on all transportation issues.
- Identify and resolve line haul transportation issues and extend solutions to new and existing customers.
- Work with management to develop, audit, and reconcile customer rate structures.
- Assist with the selection of transportation service providers/owner operators and vendors.
- Prepare reports and analysis as needed.
- Update schedule, logs, and tasks daily.
- Other duties as assigned.

Education
- Associate degree in Maritime Operations, Business, Transportation/Logistics or equivalent combination of coursework and experience in directly-related field required
Work Experience
- 3+ years of related experience in dispatching and line haul carriage operations required
- Experience successfully managing to a required return and managing vendors required
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- In-depth knowledge of principles and best practices of dispatch operations.
- Ability to effectively use knowledge of best practices to mentor and develop staff and in collaboration with others, to drive sound business decisions
- Ability to manage and deliver on multiple competing priorities.
- Proven ability to work in a fast paced environment, prioritize projects and deliverables, and interact effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Good quantitative and analytical thinking skills.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organization and effective administrative skills.
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office products at the following levels: ? Word, Excel, Outlook: Basic level of skill
