Job Summary

#CA-FT

Provide technical leadership and perform a variety of duties relating to reporting Clinical Information Systems data. The position will focus on developing reporting solutions to support ongoing operations of UC Davis Health. The incumbent will work with UCDH clinicians and administrators to extract complex datasets from Epic's relational and dimensional databases (Clarity and Caboodle) as well as other databases (e.g., OMOP). This process includes requirements gathering, data retrieval from a variety of clinical and financial data sources, validation, and curation. Projects will require translation of data into informative and actionable visualizations using Tableau, WebI, and Crystal Reports.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Epic certification in one of the following modules: Clarity, Caboodle, or Cogito or equivalent training/experience. If no current certification must obtain certification in two attempts within first 6 months of employment
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Health Informatics, Public Health, Health Care Administration or equivalent experience/training
  • Extensive experience designing, creating, testing, and implementing simple to highly complex reports using Business Objects Enterprise reporting tools, Power BI, SlicerDicer, and Tableau.
  • 2 years developing data visualizations with Tableau
  • 2 years experience with user security for user management and permissions in Tableau Server
  • 5 years writing SQL queries and working on query optimization
  • 5 years translating user requirements into report specifications
  • Proficient use of office automation software (word processing, spreadsheets, visual presentations, etc.)
  • Experience with analysis, build, implementation, and support of healthcare information systems
  • Work with relational database management systems such as Oracle and/or SQL Server
  • Use of a workflow management system such as ServiceNow
  • Designing, creating, testing, and implementing simple to highly complex reports using Business Objects Enterprise reporting tools, Power BI, SlicerDicer, and Tableau.
  • Ability to execute complex Tableau concepts required to meet difficult requirements
  • Ability learn assigned applications and meet proficiency testing requirements, and maintain certification in assigned applications
  • Tableau workbook performance troubleshooting in Tableau Desktop and Server
  • Understanding of user security for user management and permissions in Tableau Server
  • Expert level report writing skills and knowledge of multiple tools to aid in more complex report development
  • Knowledge of relational and dimensional data modeling principles and techniques
  • Complex SQL concepts and query optimization
  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills to establish and maintain positive and productive working relationships
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Knowledge of quality assurance and improvement principles, practices, and tools to reports and reporting tools development
  • Highly motivated self-starter with demonstrated leadership and mentoring skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • General knowledge of statistics and analytics
  • Proficient in office automation software (word processing, spreadsheets, visual presentations, etc.)
  • Knowledge of data security and data governance concepts.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Epic certifications in all of the following modules: Clarity, Caboodle, and Cogito.
  • Experience in an area of healthcare clinical operations.
  • Work with Epic's Clarity and/or Caboodle data models
  • Experience working with clinical information systems, preferably Epic
  • Dashboard development using Tableau, SlicerDicer, and/or Epic Radar.
  • Experience creating, testing, and implementing Epic Reporting Workbench reports.
  • Experience implementing or supporting an electronic medical record system
  • Knowledge of Epic Clarity Console, Compass, troubleshooting, and upgrades
  • SQL Server Integration Services
  • Knowledge and understanding of University practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of clinical information systems and electronic medical records, preferably Epic
  • Cogito tools including Reporting Workbench, Radar, and Cogito SQL

Department Overview

The Data Center of Excellence provides clinicians, faculty, and staff the ability to leverage the data-rich electronic health records at UC Davis Health. We integrate clinical, financial, and operational data to provide timely information that adds knowledge and identifies opportunities to improve efficiency and patient care. We develop a variety of data related assets from raw EMR data sources to complex data visualizations.

The Business Intelligence Developer (BID) role is part of the EMR Reporting Team within Data Access and Delivery in the Data Center of Excellence and will primarily focus on EMR data provisioning through SQL development, Business Objects, and Tableau business intelligence solutions.
