Summary Under general supervision, the Environmental Compliance Coordinator assists the Director in creating and implementing environmental compliance programs, creating internal policies and procedures, participating in public outreach, and light administrative duties. Pay Range: $58,614 - $ 65,665 (Depending on qualifications and experience) Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Answer questions by phone, email, or in person (at outreach events or council meetings) related to illicit discharges, environmental pollution and homeless encampment complaints or concerns. Enter environmental pollution or homeless encampment complaints into the inspection system. Monitor, respond to, and route emails from two email inboxes. Works as the Department Purchasing Coordinator. Assist in creating and implementing environmental compliance programs such as the Industrial Stormwater Advisory Roundtable, the Commercial Stormwater Pollution Prevention Enforcement Program, and the Wayward Encampment and Community Assistance Network. Speak with and advise property owners on homeless encampment concerns or violations. Attend council meetings and outreach events to promote, inform, and update on environmental compliance and homeless encampment related topics. Participates in and conducts community outreach and professional educational events. Work as the Department Purchasing Coordinator
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree, including 30 semester hours in any combination of courses in the following fields: environmental science (preferred), biological sciences, microbiology, chemistry, physical sciences, environmental engineering, or related fields. Additional coursework in communication skills is highly desirable. Minimum one (1) year of experience in coordinating environmental compliance programs. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
Preferred Qualifications Education/ Experience:
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of biology, chemistry, microbiology, environmental science, and ecology principles. Principles of federal, state, and local regulations governing environmental quality and stormwater compliance, and best management practices as determined by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Ability to apply policy and procedures in decision making. Exhibits excellent and professional customer service skills. Ability to communicate verbally publicly and in writing. Ability to communicate in all forms and formats. Ability to solve problems. Skill in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Licenses and Certifications
Physical Requirements / Work Environment Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and use standard office equipment, including a computer.
