CTY is seeking a Baltimore Emerging Scholars Site Director for an enrichment program for Baltimore City Schools pre-college students who show high academic potential. CTY Baltimore Emerging Scholars (BES) is a 25-week advanced enrichment course designed by CTY to test students' critical thinking skills and to further their academic interests through inquiry-based activities. The 25-week program will run from October through May for students in grades 1-5 at three Baltimore City Schools: Commodore John Rodgers, Francis Scott Key, and Highlandtown #215. The site directors' primary responsibilities are to oversee the academic staff, coordinate the academic program in their assigned school, ensure the quality of instruction, and address student performance issues. In addition to promoting appreciation and understanding of CTY's philosophy, policies, and procedures among the instructional staff, the site director fosters communication between the instructional staff and the administrative staff.

Site directors' working hours are based on assigned school program schedules, training, professional development, and team meetings. Each class session should be the equivalent of 60 minutes per class, 3 classes a week or 90 minutes per class, 2 classes a week. Instructional staff and this role report directly to the CTY Assistant Program Manager.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities


Program Supervision

  • Oversee, monitor, and ensure the quality of program instruction.
  • Conduct classroom observations and provide feedback to CTY leadership on teaching strategies and classroom management.
  • Coordinate meal times, breaks, and transitions
  • Act as liaison between building administration and program to ensure proper use of classroom and building space.
  • Collaborate regularly with CTY leadership regarding instructional delivery of curriculum.
  • Provide logistical support and coordination for classroom instruction, class projects, meal times, breaks, and transitions.
  • Assume the instructor's responsibilities in the instructor's absence when requested.
  • Work together as a team, keeping overall program goals in sight while managing a range of details.
  • Represent the philosophy and policies of CTY BES in a manner that fosters cooperation and respect among BES staff, students, and host schools throughout the program.

Program Development

  • Collaborate regularly with the CTY leadership regarding course content, course revision, and implementation concerns.
  • Evaluate CTY curricula to ensure cultural responsiveness.
  • Collaborate regularly with CTY leadership to plan and implement professional learning opportunities for teaching staff.
  • Provide guidance and support to instructors with regard to reviewing and utilizing any available materials information / curricular assets.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, promptly, clearly, and sensitively with CTY leadership, staff, students, parents/guardians, and school personnel.

  • Ability to respond to emergency situations while maintaining composure and demonstrating appropriate professionalism and restraint at all times

Additional Information

  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the US.
  • Applicants must be able to report to their assigned school in Baltimore, Maryland, during the CTY-BES approved dates and times.
  • All employees participating in or serving children in University programs must participate in mandatory Child Abuse Prevention online training on the appropriate conduct around children, protecting children from abuse and neglect, and reporting of known or suspected child abuse and neglect.
  • The Site Director is not a supervisory role but will work in collaboration with BES leadership to train, evaluate, and support the BES instructional staff.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Ability to be in person, in building for all Emerging Scholars courses.
  • Must be assigned to the participating Emerging Scholars school during the 2025-2026 school year.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Total Rewards
The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of Johns Hopkins University's salary range for this position. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, market conditions, education/training and other qualifications. Education and Experience Equivalency
Please refer to the job description above to see which forms of equivalency are permitted for this position. If permitted, equivalencies will follow these guidelines: JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
