THE POSITION

Are you interested in utilizing your experience to make a positive impact on the lives of the older population? The Luzerne/Wyoming Counties Area Agency on Aging is looking to hire a compassionate, patient, and professional individual to join our team as a Senior Center Operator. This position gives you the opportunity to function as an assistant to the Director of a multi-purpose Senior Center that may be designated as a community focal point. The Assistant Director not only works in conjunction with the Director to further the goals of the center program but also has sole authority to manage and direct the center in the absence of the center's director. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Senior Center Operator 1, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with the Director to achieve the goals of the programs which include enhancing the quality of life for all mature adults by encouraging independence, promoting healthy lifestyles, and ensuring safety and protection throughout their life journey. Work involves planning and instructing various classes, programs, and activities; securing speakers for life skills, education, nutrition, tax preparation, and health issues; escorting groups on trips; handling travel and meal arrangements; as well as coordinating nutrition programs. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Completing forms for membership and attendance
  • Maintaining records, statistical reports, and inventory of supplies
  • Preparing a quarterly senior center newsletter
  • Educating the community on services the center provides
  • Staying up to date on basic first aid and CPR
  • Ensuring the physical maintenance of the center facility during its normal working hours and handling any emergency situation that may arise
  • Acting as an agency representative in all center related programs involving consumers including responding to inquires
  • Making referrals for consumers to appropriate human service agencies to obtain benefits and services

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Three months of experience in providing direct services in a human services, education or a community based setting to the aging population or to individuals from various cultures and socio-economic backgrounds or to individuals who have physical, intellectual or emotional disabilities; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.

  • Hiring preference for this vacancy may be given to candidates who live within Luzerne or Wyoming County. If no eligible candidates who live within Luzerne or Wyoming County apply for this position, candidates who reside in other counties may be considered.
