The expected hiring range for this position is:

$22.88-$29.58.

About the Role:
The Computational Science & Artificial Intelligence Division at Fermilab is seeking to fill a Graduate Research Assistant. This individual will work under the directions of experts to develop AI methodology for experiment readout in material science experiments.

What your day-to-day as a Graduate Research Assistant at Fermilab will look like:

  • Works along-side staff specializing in scientific, technology, engineering, math, or computing and accelerator science to provide technical assistance on project-based tasks and/or research.
  • Investigates, defines, and resolves assigned technical and scientific problems.
  • Activities include but are not limited to assistance with data analysis, assembly prototypes, calibration code and catalogs, test set-up and monitoring, general contribution to operation of facilities, and application of modeling and simulation tools.
  • Assists technical staff with technical aspects of the research activities including method development, trouble-shooting, interpreting results and planning follow-up experiments.
  • Prepares technical reports and papers on research and development activities or other technical work.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Abides by and is responsible for performing all duties in accordance with all environmental, health and safety regulations and practices pertinent to this position.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Must be enrolled in an accredited university or college as a graduate student and hold some research or technical experience.

Applicable Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Possesses and applies the skills required to perform the technical tasks and will vary by assignment.
  • Student should possess expertise in material science and AI.

Work Arrangement:
Please note that the described work arrangement is subject to change based on business needs and is not guaranteed to be final.

  • Onsite: This is an onsite role, and the candidate must be able to work from our Batavia office. Remote work might be permitted up to two days per week.
