Principal Network Engineer

POSITION SUMMARY

Leads the design, optimization, and operations of advanced transport services providing for end-to-end SATCOM solutions. Acts as a subject matter expert and mentor, handling major infrastructure projects and high-priority issues.



PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design and maintain advanced MPLS services possibly including but not limited to: Layer 3 VPN, Layer 2 VPN (EVPN), Segment Routing, Traffic Engineering and Quality of Service.
  • Engineer and implement networks supporting internal and external customer requirements working across functional areas to include but not limited to SATCOM platform team, Operations, and PMO.
  • Become a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the microwave radio/wireless/line-of-sight backbone network - physical and network layers.
  • Work with external vendors (circuit and colocation) and parent entity for the Implementation of new connectivity in support of business objectives.
  • Perform structured lab testing to support regression testing of firmware updates, identify and resolve operational issues and engineer proof-of-concepts for adoption of new technologies.
  • Travel to remote locations in support of business objectives
  • Analyze, optimize and troubleshoot routing issues with ISIS, OSPF, BGP, RSVP, and MPLS label stacks.
  • Lead technical reviews and approve changes through the formal changemanagement process.
  • Maintain detailed logs and technical documentation within ServiceNow.
  • Use and maintain assets in ScienceLogic SL1 to monitor health, availability, and performance of network systems.
  • Mentor junior engineers and help establish operational best practices.
  • Contribute to project planning, capacity forecasting, and network expansion initiatives.
  • Support and maintain Juniper EX switches for access and aggregation layer needs.
  • Develop, review, and update MS Visio diagrams at both physical and logical level.
  • Support responses to Government RFPs/RFIs including technical design, solution write-ups, Bill of Materials (BOM) development, and participation in color team reviews for technical volumes using existing platforms/processes.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.



REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree with 10+ years in serviceprovider or carrierclass networks.
  • Proven experience in Enterprise protocols such as VLANs, VRF-Lite, 802.1Q, 802.3AD.
  • Knowledge of basic network firewall functions such as: ACLs, interzone security policy and network address translation.
  • Knowledge of network routing protocols, RIP, OSPF, EIGRP, BGP
  • Excellent troubleshooting, planning, and leadership skills.
  • Hands-on experience with Juniper MX/SRX/EX platforms, Cisco ASR/ISR, Catalyst
  • Must have Top Secret SCI + Poly Counter Intelligent clearance.



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • JNCIPSP certification strongly preferred; active pursuit of JNCIESP.
  • Proven experience in Service Provider protocols such as: MPLS, L3VPN, EVPN, RSVPTE, ISIS, OSPF, and BGP.
  • Programming/automation with Python, Ansible, or equivalent.
  • Experience with Network Function Virtualization in various hypervisor environments.
  • ITIL Foundation certification.
  • Experience with AWS cloud network architecture.
  • Hands on experience with Arbuba, EdgeConnect/Silverpeak, or other SDWAN platforms.
  • Hands on experience with Palo Alto Networks firewall
  • Experience implementing network encryption (IPSec, MACSec)



The base salary range for this full-time position is $135,000.00 - $155,000.00 + bonus + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
