POSITION SUMMARY:
Primary contact for material demand planning. This team member will review bills of material, drawings, material lists, and produce material take offs for new and existing projects

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identify material needs through drawing and spec review and in conjunction with ship superintendents create material takeoff list(s).
  • Ability to read and understand drawings, scopes of work, material requests, and other avenues of material demand.
  • Develops and implements plans to maintain project schedules and demand schedules based on need from production.
  • Negotiate price and delivery for materials and services prior to sending to Supply Chain for issuance of purchase order.
  • Collaborates with the project management team in establishing and maintaining appropriate flow of materials based on schedule.
  • Use best procurement practices to reduce work stoppages and down time by working with suppliers to provide timely deliveries to support project schedules.
  • Develops material control reports.
  • Use industry knowledge to source one off services and materials.
  • Ensures that materials are sourced with a goal of obtaining competitive pricing and on time delivery to the greatest extent possible.
  • Collaborates with scheduling function to ensure the demand plan will adequately support production schedules.
  • Responsible for managing internal relationships and business arrangements with crafts, project management, and supply chain to ensure required materials are ordered as required.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ERP systems is critical to this position.


JOB SCOPE:
This is a critical position to the success of the project management team. This position is responsible for facilitating outstanding customer service, cost-effective purchasing, enhanced supplier performance, efficient movement of materials to points of use in the operation, and maintaining delivery of materials and services that the team can rely on in supporting projects. This position operates with minimal guidance and supervision while maintaining a high level of collaboration within the various teams and across departmental boundaries. This position is often involved in development and/or decisions regarding production planning and execution and other duties as assigned in support of department and company goals.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
This role has no supervisory responsibility.

INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS:
This position maintains a variety of professional relationships and must be able to determine the appropriate level of communication and interaction for various situations. The ability to effectively influence decisions through respectful interactions with others both within the operations team and outside of the team is essential in this role. The highly collaborative nature of this role requires a high frequency of daily interaction with project management in order to provide the support necessary to plan and execute activities and achieve planned results. Candidate must have a relentless desire and ability to follow through and persist in developing and maintaining customer relations and supply management systems.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
BS in material management, or a relevant amount of experience, is required. A minimum of five (5) years of material management experience is required.
IFS Experience or other ERP Experience is preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS:
C.P.M. or APICS CPIM certification is highly desired.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Work is conducted in a dynamic, fast-paced boat building environment with moderate to loud noise levels from production activity. Will be required to be in production areas in shops and the yard. Must be able to walk to and from job sites. May be required to work more than 8-hour shifts and weekend work. May be required to lift up to 50 pounds. Local travel and out-of-town travel (including air travel) up to 5% of the time with notice. WORK ENVIRONMENT:
