Job Summary
- Prepares surfaces for finishes.
- Finishes surfaces (painting, staining, coverings, etc.).
- Performs plastering related work.
- Operates, maintains equipment related to the trade.
Pay Rate: $40.98 per hour

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

- Navigate and monitor Computerized Maintenance Management Software system (preferably AssetWORKS) for trade related work orders, budget targets, etc.
- Maintain equipment related to the trade.
- Organize and prioritize to accomplish work.
- Gather data, compile information and prepare field reports as required.
- Knowledge of construction terminology and practices, construction materials, safe working practices, basic math including basic geometry
- Knowledge of and skill in:
- Preparing surfaces for finishes by patching, repairing, scraping, cleaning, applying solvents, using sand blasting equipment, chipping hammers, vibrators, wire brushes etc.
- Taping and floating gypsum, cement board, plaster, ornamental plaster and stucco wall systems
- Rebuilding ceiling and wall metal lath and channel iron systems for preparation of plaster and finishing coats.
- Finishing surfaces by painting, staining, applying wall coverings and associated adhesives, etc.
- Measuring, cutting and repairing wall materials and associated sealing material.
- Rebuilding ceiling and wall metal lath channel iron systems in preparation of plaster and finish coats.
- Selecting and mixing the proper plastering materials, adhesives, preparing surfaces.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
Working Environment:
- Ability to work mandatory overtime hours as required, whether given advanced notice, or called-in to perform emergency duties
- Exposure to dust, dirt, general construction debris, hazardous materials, etc. that may require the use of respiratory protection.
- Exposure to loud noises that may require the use of hearing protection devices.
- Exposure to confined spaces that may require special rigging, harnessing, etc.
- Work at heights on various types of support equipment, including scaffolding, swing stages, bosons chairs, extension and step ladders, needle beam scaffolding, etc. that may require special harnessing and fall protection equipment.
- Roof work that may require special fall protection equipment, such as personal fall arrest systems (PFAS).
- Essential physical requirements, such as climbing, standing, stooping, crawling, etc.
Physical Demands:
- Exposure to work environments as previously indicated
- Ability to climb and work at heights at or above 70 feet in all weather conditions
- Ability to move objects weighing 100 lbs. or more
Qualifications
Education Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
Experience Requirements:
- Five (5) years of experience at a journeyman plasterer.
- Experience in operating within a Computerized Maintenance Management Software system (preferably AssetWORKS), preferred.
Certifications and Licensing Requirements:
- Valid State of Wisconsin Motor Vehicle operator's license and availability of properly insured personal vehicle at time of appointment and throughout employment.
- Lead safe renovator license as issued by the EPA.
- Certification in the EPA Asbestos Abatement Training Program (O&M) within 6 months of appointment Note 1
- Silica Awareness Training within first month of appointment. Note 1
- Certification in the Lead Safe Renovator Training Program within 6 months of appointment. Note 1
- Scaffolding User / Erector Training Certification within 6 months of appointment. Note 1
- Fall Protection Competent Person Training Certification within 6 months of appointment. Note 1
- Completion of the DFMS Electrical Safety Training within 6 months of appointment: Note 1
- Confined Space Entry Training within 6 months of appointment: Note 1
- Completion of the DFMS Maintenance and Repair Staff New Hire EHS Orientation Training: Note 2
Note 1 Training and/or testing will be provided by MPS but employee must obtain the certification within the time allotted.
Note 2 Training modules assigned on the MPS Learning Management System (LMS).
Responsibilities
- Prepare surfaces for finishes by patching, repairing, scraping, cleaning, applying solvents, using sand blasting equipment, chipping hammers, vibrators, wire brushes etc.
- Tape and float gypsum, cement board, plaster, ornamental plaster, stucco and other ceiling and wall and ceiling systems
- Finish surfaces by painting, staining, applying wall coverings and associated adhesives, etc.
- Measure, cut and repair wall materials and associated sealing material.
- Operates and maintains equipment related to the trade.
- May work as an LSR (Lead Safe Renovator) lead person on a site and/or project
- Performs other plastering related work as indicated Essential Functions/ Core Competencies.
- Navigate and monitor Computerized Maintenance Management Software system (preferably AssetWORKS) for trade related work orders, budget targets, etc.
- Actively supports the MPS Strategic Plan.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
