Position: Junior Technical Writer
Location: Onsite. Irvine, CA.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required.
  • Technical Writing or Instruction Design experience required.
  • 1-3 years in a technical writing/publication role.
  • Familiarity with automotive terminology.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word/Visio/Outlook/Excel).
  • Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop (Edit Digital Media) or similar.
  • Proficiency in video editing preferred, but not required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.



Description:
The primary responsibility for the Junior Technical Writer is to support Technical Publication Specialists in creating and revising Technical Service Bulletins (TSB) and publish documentation to support the service, repair and technical assistance of OEM vehicles in the United States. Duties include performing research, verifying technical procedures on vehicles, and preparing written step-by-step instructions using images and flowcharts. Qualified candidates are familiar with automotive knowledge and will work with subject matter experts (SMEs) to quickly provide technical support materials for OEM and its dealers. This position requires collaboration with multiple stakeholders at OEM to successfully assign and complete project tasks.
Responsibilities:

  • Support Technical Publication Specialists in reviewing drafts and organizing content into a finished document with logical flow.50%
  • Support the development of both new and revised documents.20%
  • Actively participate in team meetings to review feedback provided by other departments. Gather information, confirm content and provide the status of project timelines to collaborating teams and managers.20%
  • Support in-person repair-related procedures in the service garage to validate publication procedures with SMEs.10%

Personally Performed Duties:

  • Support Technical Publication Specialist with multiple technical documentation projects concurrently.
  • Develop clear and concise service technical bulletins containing repair instructions, flowcharts, illustrations, photo images, parts and special service tool information, to aid with service and repair.
  • Produce technical publications that can reach across various product lines and automotive technologies.
  • Collaborate with local team members to maintain the technical accuracy of all materials to be included in the publication.
  • Organize content into a logical flow and tailor language to support the target audience.
  • Participate in meetings and reviews to share information and experience with peers, and to provide input for policies and standards.
  • Keep technical documentation and related information stored in multiple databases for record-keeping and future use.

The base pay range above represents the low and high end of the base compensation range we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Actual base compensation will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, actual experience, and job performance.
