The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. Position Summary The Center for Translational & Computational Neuroimmunology (CTCN), in the Department of Neurology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC) is a hub for large-scale translational human studies that integrate rigorous application of advanced laboratory techniques with cutting-edge computational methods. The CTCN includes a Neuroimmunology Core which specializes in the optimization and deployment of novel experimental platforms to support the projects of CTCN investigators and collaborators. We have an opportunity for a talented research assistant to join our team. This candidate is well-organized, careful, with meticulous hands and mind who can troubleshoot and who is a team player. This candidate should be willing to try/learn new things and be flexible on the various tasks given. Responsibilities (80%) single cell/spatial assays
* Prepare single cell or single nuclei samples from complex tissues (human or mouse) and generate single cell libraries for multiple applications
* Prepare tissues for cryo-sectioning, imaging, and for spatial transcriptome workflow
* Evaluate and implement cutting-edge single cell technologies
* Maintain records, prepare results and present findings
* Work closely with laboratory and bioinformatics scientists to create industry-leading single-cell genomics data and knowledge
(20%) biobank responsibilities
* Provide assistance with laboratory processing and shipment of biospecimen (e.g. blood, serum, plasma, DNA, CSF) per research protocol.
* Responsible for entering data into the appropriate database; and quality assurance activities as assigned to ensure that study data are entered and transmitted in a timely fashion. Minimum Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications * Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences or related scientific field required.
* 2-4 Years Related Work Experience Required.
* Basic understanding of molecular biology and analytical techniques including PCR, RT-qPCR, molecular cloning, nucleic acid isolation and manipulation.
* Ability to learn new skills and knowledge on the job and productively deliver high-quality results
* Attention to detail and maintenance of good scientific records
* Excellent organizational and documentation skills
* Experience working with RNA (bulk and single-cell methods) is strongly preferred
* Experience handling human clinical biopsies or animal tissues is preferred Other Requirements
