What to Expect

Consider before submitting an application:

This position is expected to start around January 2026 and continue through the Winter/Spring term (ending approximately May 2026) or continuing into Summer 2026 if available and there is an opportunity to do so. We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks, full-time and on-site, for most internships. Our internship program is for students who are actively enrolled in an academic program. Recent graduates seeking employment after graduation and not returning to school should apply for full-time positions, not internships.

International Students: If your work authorization is through CPT, please consult your school on your ability to work 40 hours per week before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week on-site. Many students will be limited to part-time during the academic year.

As a member of the Collision Tools, Equipment, and Consumables team, you'll take on a cross-functional role focused on improving the tools, equipment and resources used across Tesla's internal and external collision centers. We're looking for someone who's genuinely passionate about automotive repair, tooling, and thrives on collaborating to solve complex problems.


What You'll Do
  • Research and develop tooling solutions to improve efficiency and safety in collision repair processes, including structural, cosmetic, and paint operations
  • Design and validate fixtures, jigs, and other related tools to streamline repairs for vehicle structures
  • Write standard documentation to approve new tools, equipment, and consumables
  • Collaborate with tooling specialists, engineers, and vendor partners to evaluate new technologies and drive continuous improvement
  • Support cross-functional initiatives that enhance repair capabilities and scale best practices for Collision globally

What You'll Bring
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • Experience with 3D CAD and 2D Drawing in SolidWorks or Catia
  • Proficient in MS Excel with a solid foundation in statistics, materials science, and structural analysis to support data-driven engineering decisions
  • Confident presenting technical information to diverse teams and external partners across all levels
  • Resourceful, flexible, and adaptable; no task is too big or too small

    Expected Compensation
    $27.86 - $41.56/hour + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
