In the role of Senior Maritime CAD/BIM Designer, we'll count on you to:

* Support our team, across our Maritime Program (nationally and internationally), in developing CAD/BIM related products including 3D digital models, construction contract drawings, as-builts record documents, report and planning figures, graphics, and GIS related geo-referenced database interface models.

* Perform as a master of your craft with the ability for self-direction in developing above products with minimal direction from the Engineer or other technical professional. Demonstrate strong knowledge and capability in construction plan content, sequencing, scale, layout, presentation, and detailing standards; developing content and nomenclature for construction related general notes and annotation; applying code standard detailing requirements (such as reinforcing sizes, clear distances, spacing, and arrangement, etc.).

* Provide support in developing earthwork, dredging, and construction material take-offs based on your development of accurately drawn, proportioned, and scaled 3d models.

* Be responsible for assimilating and managing a comprehensive project model comprised of multi-disciplinary elements (some developed by other CAD/BIM specialists); serve as responsible lead in generating the necessary project BIM elements, based on the Level of Development (LOD) outlined in the Digital Delivery Plan (DDP) and project scope.

* Create and maintain the comprehensive project model, systems, content, and overall digital delivery output for the project with all elements conforming to a project wide standard / convention for layering, annotation, presentation, referencing, indexing, naming, abbreviation, and numbering.

* Command proficiency with the necessary software that is used to produce the designs identified in the Digital Delivery requirements (which could include AutoCAD, MicroStation, Revit). Where deficient in the mastery of any necessary software, take initiative to advance capabilities through self-learning and / or company sponsored training.

* Have mastered the structural design and detailing discipline and exhibit sound fundamental knowledge of other project disciplines and how they interact in conveying the entirety of the project requirements.

* Have an advanced understanding of engineering documentation and plan presentation for all disciplines

* Mentor and develop more junior CAD/BIM specialists within the Maritime program, and / or other disciplines with which you interact in the delivery of a project.

* Exhibit expertise and command in performing the various activities necessary for achieving the above expectations; these can include, but are not limited, to the following:

o Accurately model BIM elements in the correct special constraints of the modeling environment, using the current 3D software

o Prepare detailed drawings, layouts, & diagrams of the design within the project scope, schedule, and budget, using the current 3D software

o Maintain the discipline model including project information, coordinates, scales, orientations, scope boundaries, match-lines, views, and sheets

o Produce discipline specific documentation with accurate annotations on all modeling output

o Monitor, improve, and maintain company standards and model health.

o Coordinate the design with other discipline models through Design Reviews and 3D Coordination processes

o Execute all Digital Delivery requirements identified on the project

* Contribute to the overall development, modernization, and improvement of the digital production capabilities of the Maritime program. This could include developing tools, templates, standard blocks, etc., and promoting learning and skill development within the program.

* Perform independent detailed quality assurance and control review of digital design work product developed by others within the program.

* Actively collaborate and partner with the digital production team and leadership in assessing and prioritizing program wide production demands, prioritizing work, and delivering to the expected quality standards, schedule, and budget.

* Actively participate in HDR's culture of employee ownership; actively participate in the office culture, develop a broad company network and, as available, support cross-sector projects.

Preferred Qualifications

* Minimum of a two-year associate degree in engineering technology or design and drafting technology or similar curriculum.

* Advanced proficiency with Autodesk AutoCAD software

* Experience with and established competency in Autodesk Civil 3d

* Experience with and working competency in Bentley MicroStation

* At minimum, some prior experience and working knowledge of Autodesk Revit BIM software

* A minimum of 15 years related industry experience, with 10 years of experience in marine structural and port related design.

Required Qualifications
  • Technical degree or a combination of education and relevant experience
  • A minimum of 5 years digital design (BIM element authoring) and 3 years digital delivery (model management) experience
  • Comprehensive understanding of all discipline relations and operations of building systems
  • Advanced skillset of 3D design software and document management infrastructure
  • Advanced skillset of 3D Coordination tools
  • Advanced skillset of Microsoft Office products and communication tools
  • Familiar with industry standards and practices, along with discipline codes and specifications
  • Familiar with basic automation and programming applications for efficiencies
  • Familiar with 3D design software add-ins and supporting applications
  • Familiar with content creation and management concepts
  • Superior client service, communication, and presentation skills are essential
  • Demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills to effectively serve as a first line of technical support
