Job Summary
The Clinical Laboratory Scientist is responsible for performing moderate to highly complex clinical laboratory testing in accordance with established policies, procedures, and regulatory standards. This position ensures the accuracy, reliability, and timeliness of test results that contribute to critical diagnostic and treatment decisions. The role requires strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while maintaining compliance with quality and safety protocols. Job Responsibilities
Perform moderate to highly complex clinical tests independently following established laboratory procedures and protocols
Conduct and validate newly introduced tests requiring specialized technical skills
Prepare and oversee the preparation of reagents, media, standards, and controls; test and evaluate new materials for suitability based on defined criteria
Determine specimen acceptability for testing in accordance with procedural requirements
Calculate and verify test results manually or using computerized systems, ensuring accurate data entry and result reporting
Evaluate the accuracy and reliability of test results prior to releasing patient reports, taking corrective action as necessary
Respond appropriately to critical values or unexpected results and document all actions taken
Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibration of laboratory instruments; evaluate instrument performance and ensure operational reliability
Conduct linearity, accuracy, and precision testing, as well as quality control checks and calibrations at appropriate intervals
Initiate corrective action when control materials or test systems do not meet performance criteria
Accurately perform and document proficiency testing
Identify and resolve technical or operational problems, escalating to the supervisor or manufacturer support as needed
Ensure accurate labeling, storage, and tracking of reagents and supplies
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area in compliance with safety, environmental, and infection control policies
Demonstrate effective communication with peers, supervisors, and other stakeholders through meetings and written or verbal updates
Participate in staff and quality improvement meetings and contribute to process enhancement initiatives
Support training and supervision of unlicensed or new staff in performing laboratory procedures
Maintain professional growth through continuing education to meet state licensure requirements
Perform other related duties or projects as assigned by the Supervisor or Manager

Skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Strong typing and data entry skills required; experience with laboratory automation preferred
Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks with accuracy
Physical and Mental Requirements
Ability to lift and carry objects frequently up to 10 lbs, occasionally up to 25 lbs, and rarely up to 50 lbs (with assistance for heavier objects)
Ability to perform repetitive tasks, including fine manipulation, grasping, and reaching
Must be able to sit and/or stand for extended periods
Good hand-eye coordination required
Color vision testing required for technical functions involving color differentiation (e.g., fluorescent microscopy)
