POSITION SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE:

Oversees daily operations of the Production department, encompassing both manufacturing and shipping teams. Ensure all production and shipping objectives are met safely, efficiently, and on schedule. Key duties include training staff in safe work practices, collaborating with Quality Control to uphold the highest standards, and streamlining manufacturing processes to optimize throughput while minimizing costs. Additional responsibilities involve preparing operational reports, maintaining a clean and organized work environment, and coordinating maintenance of production and auxiliary equipment. Works in close partnership with the site Production Manager to align departmental goals and drive continuous improvement.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:




  • Ensure Workplace Safety: Foster a safe working environment by conducting safety training and audits, leading safety meetings, and ensuring compliance with TSO, HSI, and all other safety standards.
  • Lead Daily Operations: Direct and manage the day-to-day activities of the Production Department to fulfill customer requirements. Responsibilities include scheduling orders, workforce planning, and optimizing equipment utilization.
  • Process Order Accuracy: Verify that batch tickets and process documentation are accurately completed and filed daily by production staff.
  • Employee Relations & Discipline: Serve as the first point of contact for employee relations issues, working closely with plant leadership to address initial disciplinary actions.
  • Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs): Ensure all employees are trained on and adhere to SOPs through structured training and control systems.
  • Team Development: Support employee growth through coaching, counseling, and administering discipline when necessary.
  • Communication & Compliance: Clearly communicate special instructions to operators and enforce plant policies, including safety and housekeeping standards.
  • Hazardous Materials Oversight: Maintain compliance with hazardous waste programs and ensure proper identification and handling of hazardous materials.
  • Quality Control Support: Collaborate with the QC team to drive process improvements, manage sampling protocols, and support work-off initiatives.
  • Inventory Management: Actively manage inventory, including raw materials, packaging, and ink usage, using accurate measurement and control systems (e.g., Process Order Variance Reports).
  • Operational Flexibility: Step in as a floor operator when needed to maintain production continuity.



REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:



  • High School Diploma or equivalent,
  • 3+ years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations
  • Strong Communication, organization, and leadership skills
  • Competence in MS Office application software specifically Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Good decision-making and problem solving skills



PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:



  • Bachelor's Degree preferred (operations management or chemical engineering ideal)
  • Experience working in SAP preferred
  • Batch management and MRP experience preferred
  • Lean Six Sigma certification or relevant experience is considered an asset


POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK: Monday - Friday 7:30am - 4pm

NUMBER OF DIRECT REPORTS: 12-14
