Our client is a rapidly growing roofing contractor transitioning its accounting operations from an outsourced provider to a fully in-house function. This is a hands-on leadership opportunity to build out the accounting department, implement best practices, and ensure accurate, GAAP-compliant financial reporting in a high-growth environment.

The Controller will oversee daily accounting operations while leading the transition from outsourced accounting to an internal team. This position will manage and mentor a newly forming team, ensure strong cash accounting practices, and support the leadership team with accurate financial reporting. The ideal candidate is a hands-on, detail-oriented leader who can balance tactical execution with strategic oversight.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the transition of accounting functions from outsourced provider to internal department.

  • Oversee daily accounting operations, including cash accounting and reconciliations.

  • Ensure GAAP compliance across financial reporting.

  • Manage and mentor the accounting team (Senior Accountants, AP Clerk).

  • Oversee payroll processing (through a 3rd-party provider).

  • Support month-end and year-end close, reporting, and audits.

  • Implement process improvements and financial controls as the company scales.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA a plus).

  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, with prior controllership or leadership responsibilities.

  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, cash accounting, and month-end close processes.

  • Hands-on leader comfortable in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.

  • Experience with QuickBooks and/or construction industry accounting a plus.

  • Excellent communication and team leadership skills.

Determining compensation for this role (and others) at Vaco/Highspring depends upon a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual's skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, office location and other geographic considerations, as well as other business and organizational needs. The individual may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses, and can participate in medical, dental, and vision benefits as well as the company's 401(k) retirement plan.
