Overview:
Exercises independent judgment in evaluation, selection and use of standard techniques, and solves problems when encountered. A licensed engineer who works on a variety of projects on structural design, preparation of implementation documentation, coordination with clients and construction administration. Collaborates with the project team to organize and plan projects.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborates with project team to effectively execute structural engineering design and delivery of structural implementation documents
- May coordinate early phase effort for determination of most appropriate structural framing system(s) and project criteria including building code, fire-rating, gravity/lateral loads and other unique requirements of the project
- Performs effectively as a team member during design and/or construction phases
- May prepare and/or review structural specifications for projects at each phase of delivery
- Maintains active awareness of the production schedule for responsible task(s)
- Coordinates structural CA effort including engineering site visitation, field report documentation, submittal review, response to project RFI's, and review of structural change order requests
- Revises implementation documents from markups and/or instructions and reviews completed tasks at key intervals for accuracy/completeness
- Reviews work of EIT staff
- Directs the work of structural drafting staff for implementation documentation
- Utilizes standard engineering practices and techniques to adjust and correlate data; recognizes and resolves discrepancies in results
- May be responsible for communication with other disciplines, vendors and contractors to ensure incorporation of all information into project requirements
- Participates in team meetings to discuss project issues, coordination with other disciplines and technical issues
- Consistently documents project meetings and telephone conversations
- Maintains knowledge of products and materials available on the market
- Travel may be required
Qualifications: Education and Experience
- Accredited professional degree in Civil, Structural or Architectural Engineering or related field
- Typically 5+ years of experience
Licenses and Certifications
- Professional engineering or structural engineering licensure required (structural engineering licensure preferred)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Advanced - expert-level experience, knowledge or skills Intermediate - experience, knowledge or skills required to produce high-quality solutions or work Basic - familiar with primary concepts or capabilities and may perform elementary functions depending on role
- Intermediate knowledge of software such as Revit and BIM required
- Intermediate knowledge of structural analytical software required
- Intermediate knowledge of MS Office Suite required
- Intermediate knowledge of building codes, material design standards, select structural standards, constructability, etc. required
- Basic knowledge of project management tools (Vision, Portfolio, etc.) preferred
- Intermediate knowledge of integrated design, engineering building systems and QA/QC process required
- Intermediate ability to communicate in a clear, concise and professional manner both verbally and in writing required
- Intermediate ability to problem solve and apply innovative solutions required
- Intermediate ability to work and collaborate in a team environment required
- Intermediate ability to work on multiple projects at the same time required
- Intermediate ability to effectively meet deadlines at expected quality required
