Minimum Experience/Education |
- Relevant Master's degree or Relevant Bachelor's and 3 or more years of relevant experience, or relevant independent experience and education

- Knowledge of insect biology, ecology, and integrated pest management practices, particularly in agricultural systems.
- Experience with field and greenhouse research, including planting, maintenance, and data collection.
- Ability to identify and monitor insect pests and apply treatments following research protocols.
- Strong organizational skills for data management, record keeping, and reporting.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to work with growers, extension agents, faculty, staff, and students.
- Capacity to work independently and as part of a team, often in outdoor field environments under variable conditions.
- Proficiency with standard software for data entry and basic analysis (e.g., Excel, Word).

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education |
- Experience with sweetpotato and/or row crop production systems in North Carolina or the southeastern U.S.
- Familiarity with statistical software (e.g., R, SAS, JMP) for advanced data analysis.
- Skills in GIS, remote sensing, or digital tools for pest monitoring and mapping.
- Demonstrated experience preparing extension materials, factsheets, or public presentations.
- Prior experience coordinating on-farm trials and working directly with growers or commodity groups.
- Training in pesticide safety, application, or certification (e.g., Private or Commercial Applicator license).
- Ability to supervise students or seasonal staff in field and laboratory settings.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills in field and lab environments.
- Experience writing technical reports, contributing to grant proposals, or co-authoring publications.
