This position is part of Genentech's' Hillsboro Innovative Therapy Team (HIT) team based in Hillsboro, Oregon. HIT is a next-generation cell and gene therapy facility with multiple technologies for delivering innovative therapies. In this role, you will execute the maintenance and calibrations for utility, building, production, and QC systems intended to produce medicine on a per-patient or per-batch basis.

You will work with technical experts for plant systems, drive problem elimination, provide analysis/optimization of system performance, and participate in asset lifecycle activities. Specific knowledge in instrument calibration, utility systems operation and maintenance, cryogenics equipment operation and maintenance, temperature-controlled unit maintenance, HVAC operation and maintenance, and the use of natural refrigerants is desired for this position. This position will perform various maintenance, calibration, and repair activities, as well as technical writing, and manage small projects to meet the requirements of a production facility. Responsibilities include:

  • Support the installation, maintenance, operation, and repair of all systems, subsystems, and equipment within the HIT facility. Perform maintenance and calibration for utility, process, QC, and building systems. Perform rounds and alarm response for utility, process, QC, and building systems.

  • Skills desired include: Instrument calibration, HVAC systems, chiller and boiler systems, water treatment, Generator/UPS, electrical/switchgear, clean room, and QC lab system maintenance.

  • Interface, collaborate and support various groups and organizations within Roche/Genentech as well as external OEMs, vendors, service providers and business partners to: Develop and implement safe work practices; Optimize equipment maintenance and repair strategies; Maximize equipment uptime; Develop equipment life cycle strategies and documents; Develop various training and qualification materials for new equipment; Support conceptual and detailed design, planning, implementation, commissioning and validation of new and existing utility/building system equipment.

  • Effectively work to initiate changes, discrepancies, and other issues as they arise, with a thorough working knowledge of Predictive Maintenance philosophy and techniques, pumps, valves, mechanical seals, motors, and proper lubrication, shop tool operation and safety, cGMP compliance, and data historian. Thorough working knowledge of cell and gene therapy equipment operation, calibration, maintenance, and repair.

  • Must continuously demonstrate the ability to work safely in an environment containing hazardous chemicals, high and low temperature liquids, high-pressure liquids and gases, steam, varying electrical voltages, and moving machinery. Ability to read and understand P&lDs, work from Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and common office applications.

Who you are:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent. College degree, engineering degree, technical degree, certificate, or coursework is a plus with +4 years of experience in a pharmaceutical/biotech, industrial / manufacturing maintenance/operation environment

Nice-To-Have Qualifications:

  • HVAC operation, Utility operation, and natural refrigerant system operation are highly desired skills

  • Utility maintenance and calibration are highly desired skills

  • Process Equipment maintenance and calibration are highly desired skills

  • Experience with cell therapy manufacturing is preferred

  • Demonstrated ability to apply experience and hands-on mechanical skills to investigate system deficiencies

  • Demonstrated ability to support technical leadership through teamwork in a cGMP environment across functional and organizational boundaries

  • Understanding of biopharmaceutical manufacturing, process equipment, and supporting utility systems.

  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills

  • Experience in personalized health care environment is desired

Physical conditions and PPE requirements:

  • Schedule may include a non-rotating 4-day (10 hour shift), one weekend day, evening or night hours, or full off-shift hours.

  • Expected to be on feet for 8 to 10 hours a day.

  • Climb upwards of 6 flights of stairs a day to maneuver within the manufacturing facility.

  • Climb heights up to 30 feet by ladder.

  • Lift up to 40lbs may be required.

  • Environment requires that gowning in the form of hospital scrubs, bunny suits, gloves and steel toe boots be worn. Also, no make-up or jewelry can be worn when working in the clean room environment.

  • Work in clean room environment with large mechanical equipment, piping, and pumps connecting to tanks serviced by high-pressure steam, water and air together this creates a loud environment.

  • Work with electrical systems 480VAC and below

  • Work with hazardous materials and chemicals.

  • Work on pressurized gasses and liquids

  • Work on cryogenic systems

  • Work on steam systems

  • Wear air purifying respirator and wear necessary hearing protection.

  • Crawl, kneel and stoop and work in small work spaces.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location for this position of Hillsboro, OR is $53,000- $90,000. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, level, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
