HIM Specialist - On-Site Opportunity

Emerald Coast Behavioral Hospital provides inpatient treatment services to adolescents and adults at our 86-bed facility in Panama City, FL and outpatient services to adolescents and adults at our four outpatient centers located throughout the Florida Panhandle. Additionally, we offer specialized treatment for active duty military members through our Military Resiliency Program, specialized chemical dependency treatment and TMS therapy for chronic depression.

The HIM Specialist assures that records are kept confidential, secure, current, authenticated, legible, and complete. Records and informational content must be safeguarded against loss, defacement, and tampering, as well as from use by unauthorized individuals. Provides services necessary for prompt retrieval of information, both clinical (diagnosis codes) and statistical (admissions, etc.). Provides for transcription of clinical dictation and utilization review for third party payors. Processes releases of information within state and federal confidentiality guidelines. Codes diagnoses and procedures as appropriate using ICD-10-CM coding system after patient discharge.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Processes release of information as appropriate in response to requests including but not limited to patient's, healthcare entities, legal agencies, etc. according to standard hospital policy and procedure and HIPAA requirements.

  • Assembles and files medical record according to hospital guidelines.

  • Codes diagnoses and procedures as appropriate using ICD-10-CM coding system after patient discharge for all payor types with the exception of Medicare. May pre-code Medicare with final review, approval and submission by supervisor.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalency required. Associates Degree or higher in related filed preferred.
  • One (1) year experience in HIM preferred. Internship or current enrollment in a related curriculum may be substituted.
  • Not a remote position.
