Essential Job Duties |
The Poole College of Management is seeking an accomplished financial and operational leader to serve as its next
Assistant Dean for Finance and Business Operations. In this pivotal role, you will shape the College's resource strategy and provide executive-level guidance on accounting, finance, forecasting, strategic planning, and risk management. Reporting directly to the Dean and serving on the Executive Committee, you will be a key voice in planning and policy-making-ensuring that the College has the financial strength and operational insight needed to advance its mission.
As
Assistant Dean for Finance and Business Operations, you will oversee the management of college finances with a strong focus on controlling costs, appropriately increasing revenues, and ensuring compliance with state regulations and generally accepted accounting principles. You will develop, implement, and evaluate management and spending policies across a wide range of areas, including administrative charges, state-appropriated funds, capital improvements, consulting services, property management, course registration fees, indirect funds, educational and technology fees, student fees, overhead, trust, discretionary, and endowments.
You will serve as a key liaison with the University Budget Office, Controller's Office, Human Resources, Internal Audit, Contracts and Grants, and other offices as needed. Collaboration with these units will be essential to successfully manage quarterly and fiscal year-end closeouts, while ensuring adherence to all University, federal, and external agency rules, regulations, and policy guidelines.
In this role, you will be responsible for:
- Leading long-term planning, budgeting, and analysis of institutional and program budgets.
- Ensuring the creation and maintenance of financial records and reports, management controls, and accountability systems to achieve goals and comply with funding regulations.
- Providing timely and accurate financial information to both internal and external stakeholders.
- Overseeing the full range of fiscal affairs, including financial planning, accounting systems and procedures, organizational structures and controls, budget development and management, cash flow receipts and expenditure monitoring, compliance, and auditing.
- Developing systems and procedures to guide faculty, program directors, and administrators in effective financial and operational management.
- Creating standard models for developing budgets, billings, and expense/revenue reports.
- Preparing and maintaining reports for various state and federal agencies.
- Serving on senior leadership committees and representing the College on university committees and task forces.
- Evaluating strategies for optimal financial information management and directing the implementation of integrated financial management systems.
Beyond finance, you will also hold primary responsibility for overseeing
facilities, strategic projects, business intelligence, and college transactional support, ensuring that these operational areas align with and advance the College's strategic priorities. |

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
Requires a relevant post-Baccalaureate degree with a minimum of three (3) years or greater of related professional experience, or a relevant undergraduate degree and a minimum of five (5) years or greater of relevant experience may be substituted for the advanced degree. |
Other Required Qualifications |
- Demonstrated experience in a role responsible for budget planning, financial management, resource allocation, and business services for current and future operations.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly, knowledgeably, and professionally both orally and in writing with clients and colleagues.
- Excellent analytical and organizational skills, excellent interpersonal and managerial abilities, demonstrated a capacity for leadership initiative and teamwork.
- Advanced Excel experience including pivot tables.
- Experience with extracting data from enterprise resource planning (ERP) tables via query or reporting system, like Wolfpack Reporting System or similar product.
- Demonstrated experience with large ERP system such as PeopleSoft.
