What to Expect
Tesla is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join our Payments team, focused on building and scaling payment processing systems that keep the lights on for the company. This involves collaborating with cross-functional teams, including product, finance, engineering and operations, to gather requirements and develop solutions aimed at reducing friction points for internal/external customers. You will operate in various segments of payments, involving fraud, disbursements and visibility. In this role you will also prototype with new technologies (ex, LLMs, Agents, Temporal, etc.) and champion their usage to ease developer cognitive load and system operations.

What You'll Do
  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable and efficient payment processing systems for Tesla's products and services
  • Develop and maintain API integrations with third-party payment processors, banks, and other financial institutions
  • Implement best practices in security, data privacy, and compliance to ensure the protection of sensitive customer data
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure solutions align with system design, operational needs and end-user impact
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the overall growth and development of the engineering team
  • Stay up to date with the latest trends and technologies in the payments/software engineering industry to identify new opportunities and drive innovation.
  • Contribute to system architecture and design, especially where AI, automation and operational scale intersect
  • Develop workflows that leverage AI to improve operations (support, on-call, etc.)

What You'll Bring
  • Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of work experience as a software engineer or in a related role
  • Well versed in Go
  • Solid CS fundamentals and experience with CI/CD (Jenkins, Argo, etc), containerization (Docker, K8s, etc) and observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, etc.)
  • Experience with large language models, AI agents, prompt engineering, and AI platforms (e.g. OpenAI, HuggingFace, LangChain, LlamaIndex, etc.)

    Expected Compensation
    • Staff Software Development Engineer - $185,440 - $278,160/annual salary
    + cash and stock awards + benefits for all levels

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
