Patient Service Specialist

Location: 8 Pikes Hill, Norway, ME
Department: Primary Care | MaineHealth Stephens Hospital

Schedule: Monday-Friday 8AM-5PM | Consistent Day Shift | 36 hours per week

Position Summary:
MaineHealth is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Patient Service Specialist (PSS) to join our Primary Care Family Medicine team in Norway, Maine. In this key front-office role, you will be the first point of contact for our patients-supporting their care journey with professionalism, empathy, and efficiency. If you have medical clerical experience and thrive in a patient-centered environment, we encourage you to apply.

What You'll Do:
  • Greet and check in patients in a welcoming and timely manner

  • Schedule appointments, manage phone calls, and handle patient inquiries

  • Collect co-pays and verify insurance eligibility

  • Support referral processing and imaging/prior authorization coordination

  • Maintain accurate patient records in the electronic health system

  • Collaborate with providers and clinical teams to ensure smooth office operations

Qualifications:
  • Required:

    • Minimum 6 months of medical clerical or front-office healthcare experience

    • Strong customer service, communication, and organizational skills

    • Comfort with technology and electronic health record (EHR) systems

  • Preferred:

    • Experience with referrals, imaging coordination, and prior authorizations

  1. Education: High school diploma or GED preferred.
  2. License/Certifications: N/A
  3. Experience: Six months of medical office experience required.
  4. Additional Skills/Requirements Required: N/A
  5. Additional Skills/Requirements Preferred: Proficient computer skills.
