ResponsibilitiesAs a Senior Cloud Network Engineer, you will be at the heart of Microsoft's modern network engineering process, working in a team that manages Microsoft's enterprise fiber optical network infrastructure. We are focused on solving the most interesting challenges of developing innovative solutions while ensuring service reliability through identifying and eradicating defects within the infrastructure. Primary Responsibilities: Network Design and Implementation You will apply Knowledge of cabling infrastructure, Industry Trends, and Field Data towards implementation and operations. Conduct site surveys and feasibility studies to determine optimal cable routes, circuit designs and network layouts.Analyze client requirements and translate them into technical specifications and network blueprints.Use Visio software and network modeling tools to create detailed network and circuit designs, including cable pathways, splice or connection points, and hardware locations.Assess existing infrastructure for compatibility and integration with new fiber optic systems.Develop Bill of Materials (BOM) and cost estimates for proposed solutions. Maintain and Operate Networks You will monitor, analyze, and troubleshoot network cabling infrastructure; participate in on-call/Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) duties and create root cause analysis for network incidents. You will apply Continuous Improvement, testing and validation of network and optical devices. Oversee or perform the installation of fiber optic cables (jumper cables, aerial, underground, and indoor), ensuring compliance with manufacturer specifications and industry standards.Install fiber distribution panels, patch panels, and other related hardware.Perform single or ribbon fusion splicing of fiber optic cable when required. Implement network protection techniques including slack loops, armored cabling, and secure enclosures.Perform optical time-domain reflectometer (OTDR) testing, light source and power meter tests, and visual fault inspections to verify cable integrity and performance.Analyze and interpret test results, identifying any faults, losses, or performance issues.Identify, isolate, and resolve faults in fiber optic cables, connectors, splices, and active/passive components.Maintain accurate maintenance logs, repair histories, and inventory records.Coordinate with service line owners to contract third-party vendors and team members for complex repairs and upgrades.Conduct audits of fiber infrastructure including cables, live circuits, and cable rooms.Deployment Management - You will work within a team of engineers to manage network deployments. You will troubleshoot enterprise grade layer 1 networks. Supporting People and Execution Collaboration - You will collaborate within and across teams by proactively sharing information with an appropriate level of detail for their audience; overcome obstacles by resolving conflicts and issues across interdependent teams and engage with partners and stakeholders so issues can be resolved, and mutual objectives are met. Mentorship / Development - You will mentor and provide feedback to other engineers, while also proactively seeking mentorship and feedback from others; share ideas and insights for improving team-oriented behaviors, including DevOps and live site handling skills. Participate in weekly Sprint planning meetings to review completed, on-going, and upcoming work tasks. |
