Description

Position Overview

The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the company's day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, job costing, and financial reporting. This role collaborates closely with internal stakeholders and leadership to deliver strategic financial insights and maintain accurate financial records. The Accounting Manager also leads the accounting team, ensuring operational excellence, compliance, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Oversee daily accounting operations: accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, job costing, and financial reporting
  • Manage month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting

  • Prepare and analyze financial statements, variance reports, and forecasts for leadership review

  • Monitor project budgets and costs, ensuring alignment with contract terms and accurate expense allocation

  • Establish and enforce internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures to protect company assets

  • Supervise and mentor accounting team members; provide ongoing training, performance feedback, and development opportunities

  • Support external audits, tax filings, and compliance with GAAP and relevant state and federal regulations

  • Optimize accounting software and system integrations (e.g., Sage 300, Textura, Procore).

  • Ensure timely filing of sales/use taxes, business license renewals, and other regulatory compliance requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field

  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, within the construction industry

  • Strong understanding of construction-specific accounting concepts, including:

  • WIP (Work in Progress) schedules

  • Percentage-of-completion revenue recognition

  • Bonding

  • AIA billing

  • Proficiency with construction accounting software

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills

  • Strong leadership, communication, and analytical problem-solving skills.

  • Detail-oriented, organized, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA (Certified Public Accountant) license

  • Prior experience in public accounting

Wage Transparency

In accordance with the Maryland Wage Transparency Law, the base salary range for this position is: $115,000.00 - $150,000.00.

The determination of salary is based on the candidate's individual professional experience, qualifications, education, skills, and training.
