Position Highlights

The Clinical Research Manager I oversees the daily operations of the trauma research program, managing a team of clinical research staff to ensure goals and objectives are accomplished in compliance with federal, NIH, and University requirements. The incumbent collaborates with project investigators, advisors, university program leads, and federal administrators to plan and implement clinical research programs, ensuring ethical and regulatory compliance in all research activities.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Oversees daily operations of the trauma research program, providing supervisory guidance to staff and ensuring compliance with federal, NIH, and University standards.
  • Hires, manages and trains all Trauma 24/7 Clinical Research Assistants to enroll in multidisciplinary trials for the department.
  • Ensures research personnel maintain current clinical research knowledge and certifications.
  • Leads research coordination for multiple clinical trials with multiple investigators, including oversight of administrative, regulatory, and fiscal activities.
  • Administration of incoming and outgoing research collaborations/contracts.
  • Partners with principal investigator in implementing research objectives and supports the development of research activities within the Division of Trauma, Burn, Critical Care & Emergency Surgery.
  • Contributes to the development and coordination of trauma research program activities, grant preparation, program start-up tasks, and collaborative research projects.
  • Facilitates communication among partnership units; including complex networks of consortiums; steering committees, internal advisory committee, executive committee, and all investigators.
  • Maintains effective partnerships with Department of Surgery and the College of Medicine.
  • Provides research leadership by supporting University clinical coordinator training and developing Standards of Practice (SOPs) for the University.
  • Monitors budgets, prepares recommendations for budgetary allowances and meets with business office to ensure fiscal responsibility for research budgets.
  • Prepares periodic reports, financial statements and records on program activities, progress, status or other special reports for investigators, advisors, UA, NIH, or other agencies.
  • Assists with evaluation of programs and analysis of results.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Knowledge of university procedures/policies regarding Sponsored Projects and IRB.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of related work experience or equivalent combination of education and work experience required.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong leadership and management skills of a diverse group.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Computer literate in all critical programs (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Publisher) and the aptitude to learn new software as necessary for grant writing, presentations, fiscal management, and website/brochure creation.
  • Fiscal management skills to oversee complex budgets and accounts.
