"Off-scale" salaries, which yield compensation that is higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated rank and step, are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions. 1 year with the possibility of renewal depending on availability of funding and satisfactory performance Application Window Open date: October 9, 2025 Next review date: Thursday, Oct 23, 2025 at 11:59pm (Pacific Time) Final date: Saturday, Nov 8, 2025 at 11:59pm (Pacific Time) Position description Berkeley Center for Responsible Decentralized Intelligence (RDI) is a multidisciplinary initiative dedicated to advancing the science, technology, and education of AI and Agentic AI to empower a responsible digital economy. RDI conducts research in the areas of AI and Agentic AI with an emphasis on agentic AI foundations, AI safety & security, agentic AI applications, AI for cybersecurity, AI for program synthesis and secure code, as well as decentralization technologies. RDI's teaching includes the first LLM Agents MOOC and Agentic AI follow-on courses in the series that have attracted over 32,000 registered learners globally along with agentic AI competitions and hackathons attracting thousands. The Assistant Project Scientist will contribute high-level expertise to research on AI safety in multi-agent systems. The appointee will work as part of a collaborative research team to investigate open challenges in AI safety, including surveying and synthesizing existing literature, identifying emerging safety and security risks in multi-agent environments, and supporting the design, implementation, and evaluation of new approaches to address these risks.
