Description

The Neurology research lab is looking for a highly experienced, motivated, and detail-oriented research assistant with interest in addressing health disparities in neurological diseases. This team is being developed to better understand health disparities in neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's disease. The ideal candidate will have a strong command of data management of health record data and survey and interview administration, with a particular interest in candidates with experience using REDCap. The Principal Investigator (PI) is particularly interested in community-based and partnered interventions to address health disparities in neurodegenerative disorders in the Black community.

The ideal candidate will have experience and interest working with community organizations in the Black community of the greater Los Angeles area. Given the nature of the research, the position will sometimes involve data collection in the community setting (ex. local church or community center). In addition to data collection and management, other duties of this position include coordinating research activities, aiding in collaborations within and outside of UCLA, reviewing scientific literature, and contributing to and editing/proofreading manuscripts and grants. Applicants should have scientific writing experience and the ability to synthesize and write a manuscript for a peer-reviewed journal. We seek a candidate with experience with human subjects and survey administration as well as team management skills. You will be expected to contribute and execute original research ideas. The ideal candidate will haveexperience managing Institutional Review Board (IRB) applications. You must have excellent communication skills with the PI, collaborators, and other team members.

Salary Range: $66431.27 - $106830.32/Annually

Qualifications

All Required:

  • Ability in designing research strategies, designing experiments, establish new laboratory procedures, and protocols.
  • Ability to perform duties and tasks independently and with responsibility with minimal supervision..
  • Have scientific writing experience, being able to synthesize and write a manuscript for a peer-reviewed journal.
  • Ability to take initiative and follow through independently on projects.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality with data and research projects.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with a variety of individuals including faculty, staff, data and research partners, and community partners.
  • Experience in research project coordination (project management). Ability to manage project tasks.
  • Excellent team skills, interacting well with individuals of diverse backgrounds. Experience with establishing and maintaining effective and cooperative working relationships with faculty, staff, and research partners.
  • Working knowledge and proficient use of software - Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Access), Internet browsers. Ability to learn additional software programs. Word processing skills appropriate for completing research program documents and correspondence with speed and accuracy.
  • Ability to work a flexible work schedule including occasional evenings and/or weekend days for community programming/recruitment events
  • Prior experience in handling a variety of tasks with a high degree of accuracy and ability to set priorities when confronted with competing requests. Ability to meet tight deadlines and last minute requests efficiently and accurately.
  • Strong problem solving skills. Flexibility and adaptability in dynamic environment based on changing priorities.
  • Experience with developing and sharing novel educational materials via social media.
  • Demonstrate efficiency and productivity by setting and meeting deadlines for tasks.
  • Communicate any questions, delays, or challenges affecting the ability to complete task in a clear and timely manner.
  • Strong English writing skills. Skill and editing for spelling, punctuation, formatting, and grammar.
  • Experience with data analysis and interpretation. Visual skills and ability to summarize data effectively in tables figures posters presentations and websites.
  • Ability to execute assigned tasks in a timely manner (before the deadline).
  • Skill in analyzing information, problems, situations, policies or procedures to define the problem, need or objective, identify relevant issues or concerns, formulate alternatives for resolution or new program development, and recommend alternative choices and implications for implementation.
  • Experience managing IRB submissions.
  • Bachelor's degree plus one to three years of relevant experience in a health care, research, or educational environment.
  • Outstanding writing skills familiarity with data analysis software such as SAS.
  • Experience with endnote reference management.
  • Experience with data collection and/or analysis for medical research.
  • Experience with developing and maintaining a website.
  • Experience with project coordination across multiple institutions/organizations.
  • Experience in data collection, including administering interviews and surveys.
