Duties & Responsibilities

The
fellowship offers a competitive salary. The postdoctoral fellow will focus on
research while working closely with PIs Dr. Jonny Wu and Dr. Amanda Hughes. The
primary role is to set up, equip, and conduct numerical structural geology and
tectonics experiments at University of Arizona. The experiments will investigate stress-strain evolution during
strike-slip faulting. Experimental
results will be compared to natural prototypes (e.g. in Asia or western North
America) and analog models, with emphasis on the implications for structural
models needed for energy geoscience.

Key
skills include analog modeling, seismic interpretation, 3D subsurface mapping, section
balancing and restoration, and scientific illustration. Direct experience with interactions between
strike-slip faults and thrust-related folding is a strong asset, along with
experience in fractured hydrocarbon reservoirs. Experience in other structural modeling techniques and software (numerical
discrete element method, StructureSolver, ArcGIS) and basic programming is helpful. The
postdoctoral fellow may mentor early career researchers. This fellowship also
provides the possibility to collaborate with teams from other academic
institutions, further expanding the scope and impact of their scientific
contributions. The fellow is expected to
be in residence in Tucson, Arizona during their tenure, actively participate in
seminars, and contribute to the broader intellectual community.

Duties
and responsibility:

  • Independently develop, setup, run, and analyze numerical models of strike-slip structural systems in a new laboratory. This may involve working on analog modeling experiments to benchmark the numerical model results.
  • Comparison of experimental results to natural tectonic systems on Earth
Minimum Qualifications
  • A Ph.D.
in geoscience or a related discipline. The selected candidate must have a
    conferred Ph.D. upon hire.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior postdoctoral or industry experience is an asset.

Notice of Availability of the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report In compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act), each year the University of Arizona releases an Annual Security Report (ASR) for each of the University's campuses.Thesereports disclose information including Clery crime statistics for the previous three calendar years and policies, procedures, and programs the University uses to keep students and employees safe, including how to report crimes or other emergencies and resources for crime victims. As a campus with residential housing facilities, the Main Campus ASR also includes a combined Annual Fire Safety report with information on fire statistics and fire safety systems, policies, and procedures.
Paper copies of the Reports can be obtained by contacting the University Compliance Office at cleryact@arizona.edu.
