At Aon, the Engineering Manager acts as the main point of contact for assigned technology services across the organization. You will lead a team of engineers and vendors, guiding both day-to-day delivery and long-term strategy! In this role, you'll balance hands-on technical leadership with facilitation and coordination-staying close to the work through design and code reviews, while also driving alignment between teams and collaborators.

Manage the health and evolution of legacy systems, oversee migrations to modern platforms, and ensure smooth transitions by maintaining up-to-date plans, dependencies, and change calendars. Partnering with Product Owners and business colleagues, you'll define roadmaps, track progress, and communicate status, risks, and options in a clear and actionable way.

This position requires you to maintain stability for in-scope applications, run efficient change and release processes, and uphold compliance in regulated environments. You'll also drive continuous improvement in testing, observability, and security, ensuring your team delivers reliable, high-quality solutions that support business goals.

Responsibilities:
  • Own a transition roadmap: sequence migrations, define coexistence, cutover/rollback, and decommission.
  • Lead fit/gap of legacy capabilities to target platforms; document interface contracts and handoffs.
  • Enforce versioning and contract testing with consuming and owning teams to protect compatibility.
  • Manage data moves: mapping, backfills, reconciliation, retention/archival, legal holds.
  • Bake NFRs into DoD: p95/p99 latency, availability, throughput; track adoption and DORA.
  • Define delivery governance: working agreements, stage gates, CAB material, change calendar discipline.
  • Maintain ADRs and migration guides; publish a clear decommission checklist (traffic cut, DNS, credentials, archives, CMDB).
  • Translate outcomes to a quarterly plan: scope, estimates, sequencing, and dependency management.
  • Align on objectives and key results/key performance indicators with Product and platform owners, keep execution tied to measurable results.

Skills and experience that will lead to success.

  • 7+ years in software engineering; 2+ years managing delivery in a matrixed, vendor-heavy environment.
  • Strong in .NET 8 services and one modern web stack (React/TypeScript preferred)
  • Legacy familiarity: COTS operations, Windows/IIS, batch jobs, file transfers (SFTP/EDI), schedulers; awareness of RPG/COBOL/iSeries flows and data files.
  • Azure: AKS/containers, Azure SQL, Cosmos/Storage, App Gateway/Front Door, Key Vault; App Insights for APM.
  • CI/CD in Azure DevOps (YAML) with test gates, SAST/DAST, artifact promotion, approvals as code.
  • Testing depth: unit/integration, UI/E2E, contract and performance testing.
  • Facilitation strength: influence without authority, conflict resolution, decision framing, and concise executive communication.
  • Project delivery and technical oversight-follow SDLC for application enhancements/projects ensuring code quality architectural consistency using best practices.
  • Deep understanding of agile principles and scrum methodology
  • Proven use of RACI/RAID, dependency boards, change control, and cross-team cutovers.
  • Observability: logs, metrics, traces, SLOs/error budgets, burn-rate alerts; proven incident leadership.
  • Security: OAuth/OIDC, least-privilege, dependency scanning, secrets management, threat modeling.
  • Data/integration: relational modeling, indexing, query plans, async messaging, retries/timeouts/circuit breakers.
