The IT Program Manager leads the project management process for a group of programs and/or projects. Responsibilities involve carrying out processes, reporting, handling risks, budgets, and collaborating with others. Responsible for oversight of the execution of all aligned programs and projects to meet defined objectives. Role will also ensure standards are followed and provide governance for the assigned IT Portfolio of Projects.

  • Responsible for the planning and execution of programs and projects within the portfolio
  • Monitor project status, risks, and resource allocation across assigned portfolio and programs
  • Support project managers with methodology, governance, and best practices
  • Ensure IT projects align with governance, security, and compliance standards
  • Prepare and deliver reports, dashboards, and recommendations for Project Teams, Stakeholders and Leadership
  • Ensure programs and projects follow established governance standards
  • Review resourcing on a regular basis and resolve issues if present, across programs
  • Lead lessons learned sessions, post-project reviews, and promote continuous improvement for IT delivery.

What the day will look like.

Throughout the day, a Program Manager in the PMO balances oversight with hands-on support. The role involves frequent communication, quick problem-solving, and keeping everyone aligned with business goals. Two days are exactly the same, but the focus remains on helping programs succeed and supporting the organization's strategy!

Daily Activities
  • Review project and program dashboards for updates or issues
  • Check and respond to emails from project teams and collaborators
  • Monitor milestones and deadlines for active programs
  • Address risks or issues flagged by teams
  • Update program documentation and action logs
  • Provide guidance to project managers on processes or tools
  • Communicate priorities and next steps to teams
  • Coordinate quick problem-solving discussions when needed
Weekly Activities
  • Prepare and distribute status reports for programs and portfolio
  • Facilitate portfolio and program review meetings with PMO and leadership when needed
  • Update resource allocation plans based on project needs
  • Review and escalate major risks or issues to PMO Lead and Stakeholders
  • Review lessons learned and process feedback with teams
  • Update templates or process documents for continuous improvement
  • Plan for upcoming milestones or deliverables for the program
  • Document decisions and outcomes from key meetings

Skills and experience that will lead to success.

  • 5 years or more IT Project Management experience leading multiple large complex projects with at least 3 years of Program Management experience in a PMO setting
  • Effective communication and organizational skills
  • Familiarity with IT project management in an Agile environment
  • Data driven, with ability to analyze data to make evidence-backed decisions.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Excel (calculations, advanced formulas) Power BI is desired, Power Query.
  • Growth mindset, curiosity, and an eagerness to learn - and using these skills to deliver continuous improvement.
  • Ability to adapt communication styles to guarantee successful outcomes - with clients, and across all levels of Aon (senior leaders, peers, team members and third parties)
  • Experience working with a multitude of partners, process owners, operations leaders, and end users on various projects.
  • Preferred Experience: Experience with Power BI and Azure DevOps a Plus

Pay Transparency Laws:

The salary range for this position (intended for U.S. applicants) is $120k to $135k annually. The actual salary will vary based on applicant's education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary may also be adjusted based on applicant's geographic location.
