Overview:

Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is the largest US Department of Energy science and energy laboratory, conducting world-class research to deliver transformative solutions for challenges in energy, national security, and scientific discovery. We are seeking an experienced Supply Chain Analyst to lead procurement coordination, expediting, receiving, and material issuance activities in direct support of manufacturing and technical operations within the Enrichment Science and Engineering Division (ESED).

This position is designed for a supply chain professional with deep operational knowledge, strong ERP experience, and the ability to manage end-to-end material flow with minimal oversight. The analyst will serve as the technical lead for assigned scope and act as the primary liaison between procurement, engineering, planning, and production. The ideal candidate will own lifecycle material tracking, ensure schedule alignment, and proactively manage supplier performance and internal readiness.

As a key contributor within the Supply Chain Management Group, the analyst will apply strong judgment and technical problem-solving to maintain traceability, accuracy, and compliance across all assigned responsibilities. This role supports enrichment technology and isotope production missions that are critical to the DOE Isotope Program and national security initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the technical lead for SCM execution within assigned scope, owning all supply chain activities from requisition to production order issuance.
  • Lead procurement actions, tracking and expediting for assigned parts, engaging directly with suppliers and procurement to ensure delivery timelines align with operational needs.
  • Perform receiving and inspection activities, verifying conformance, documentation, and traceability prior to ERP receipt entry.
  • Manage staging and issuance of material to work orders in accordance with schedule, configuration, and quality requirements.
  • Maintain ERP system accuracy by processing purchasing, inventory, and work order transactions in real time.
  • Review and validate material certifications, COCs, inspection records, and technical data packages for compliance.
  • Coordinate with engineering, planning, and production teams to resolve part gaps, drawing issues, and configuration mismatches.
  • Support physical inventory efforts, warehouse coordination, and traceable material control under SBMS and QA standards.
  • Monitor inventory levels, order status, and readiness metrics using ERP tools and reporting dashboards.
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives, workflow optimization, and digital tool development.
  • Represent SCM in internal readiness reviews, material availability briefings, and cross-functional planning discussions.
  • Support onboarding and mentorship of junior staff to build continuity and ownership across the supply chain function.
  • Perform hands-on material handling and inventory movement.
  • Deliver ORNL's mission by aligning behaviors, priorities, and interactions with our core values of Impact, Integrity, Teamwork, Safety, and Service. Promote equal opportunity by fostering a respectful workplace - in how we treat one another, work together, and measure success.

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or a technical field with 2-4 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of ERP systems (SAP Business One preferred) with hands-on experience in purchasing, receiving, inventory management, and work order execution.
  • Demonstrated success managing supplier performance and expediting materials in support of technical operations.
  • Proven ability to independently identify and resolve material readiness issues across procurement, planning, and production.
  • Experience working in quality-controlled environments requiring inventory traceability and compliance with documentation standards (e.g., COCs, inspection reports, cert packages).
  • Ability to perform hands-on support activities including receiving, staging, and issuing materials.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate across technical and operational teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

In addition to meeting the basic qualifications, candidates who brings the following experience will be strongly positioned for success in a senior-level role:

  • MS degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, or a related field with 1-3 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience supporting Department of Energy (DOE), Department of Defense (DOD), or other federally regulated production environments.
  • Familiarity with SBMS procedures, government property standards, and institutional quality assurance frameworks.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems such as SAP Business One, Oracle, or similar platforms, including work order management, inventory transactions, and master data accuracy.
  • Experience managing controlled documentation systems, including SharePoint administration and internal training resources.
  • Applied knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies in supply chain or manufacturing contexts.
  • Background in production control, manufacturing planning, or hybrid support roles with dual responsibility across logistics and technical workflows.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver internal training, ERP guidance, or process standardization content.
  • Certifications in Lean Six Sigma (e.g., White Belt, Yellow Belt), technical writing, causal analysis, or document control.
  • Active DOE Q Clearance or the ability to obtain one.
