Overview

Blackhawk Technical College is seeking a qualified candidate to provide part-time Basic Skills Instruction in Reading, Language, Math and/or Employability Skills within our Learning Support Division. Instruction will be held within the Rock County Jail.



Responsibilities

    Provide instruction for assigned classes.
  1. Engage in ongoing student learning assessment to determine effectiveness of instruction and curriculum.
  2. Create a classroom environment that is respectful of diversity and demonstrates a commitment to multiculturalism.
  3. Maintain accurate student records and reports as requested by administrative offices.
  4. Identify students needing assistance and refer students to Student Services. Collaborate with Student Services and the Learning Resources staff members to help students adjust to the learning environment.
  5. Remain current on developments in the teaching field so that instruction is delivered for a variety of learning styles, uses the latest supportive technology and utilizes alternative delivery methods.
  6. Remain current on Best Practices on GED curriculum content in the discipline and use of continuous quality improvement techniques to update content and foster current evidence-based program assessment and improvement.
  7. Develop and update or revise course curriculum as needed to maintain program relevance.
  8. Prepare and update course syllabi (using BTC guidelines) for each course taught, and work cooperatively with members of other departments and programs in coordinating courses.
  9. Assist in the enforcement of college regulations and report student conduct violations to administration.
  10. Meet weekly office hours and other duties required to meet student, employer, and college needs.
  11. Learning Support Manager & Department Chair in other duties as assigned.
  12. Meet Wisconsin Technical College System professional development requirements through the Faculty Quality Assurance System.
  13. Create individualized GED educational plans based on each student's needs.


Qualifications

  1. Bachelor Degree in Education with emphasis in reading, language, or communication.
  2. Skill in communications and human relations with populations having diverse socio-economic and racial backgrounds.
  3. Proficiency in computer use and applications which support teaching and learning.
  4. An educational philosophy which places the primary emphasis on student learning in the design, delivery, and evaluation of courses.
