Job Summary
The Occupational Therapist 1 (OT 1) works as a New Grad - Entry Level therapist and is responsible for organizing, coordinating, and implementing occupational therapy services for patients as assigned by the Director of Therapy. The OT 1 plans, evaluates, and implements individualized treatment programs to support patients in achieving optimal functional independence. Key Responsibilities
- Provide occupational therapy evaluations and treatments in accordance with physician orders and patient care plans.
- Collaborate with an interdisciplinary rehabilitation team to deliver coordinated, patient-centered care.
- Monitor and document patient progress, adjusting treatment plans as appropriate.
- Educate patients, families, and caregivers on therapeutic techniques, adaptive equipment, and home exercise programs.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in compliance with departmental and regulatory standards.
- Participate in continuing education and professional development activities.
- Contribute to a safe, supportive, and positive patient care environment consistent with UC Davis Health values.

- California Licensed Occupational Therapist
- American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS), or UC Davis Health CPR
- Graduation from an accredited Occupational Therapy program with a bachelor's degree or higher
- New graduate or entry-level professional with prior clinical or work experience supporting complex patients in inpatient rehab or acute care, overseeing the plan of care
- Basic knowledge and skills of occupational therapy theory and practices as identified by the Occupational Therapy Practice Act and licensure by the State of California
- Basic competency in occupational therapy evaluation techniques, such as range of motion testing, muscle testing, cognitive/ perceptual testing, activities of daily living evaluation, sensory testing, and use of standardized testing of upper extremity function
- Basic competency in occupational therapy treatment modalities, including activities of daily living and transfer training, strengthening, coordination, balance, range of motion, perceptual/cognitive skills training, wheelchair prescription, fabrication of splints and adapted devices
- Ability to communicate ideas and relate well with staff and patients to work as a team member
- Willingness to assist other staff members with their caseloads
- Ability to establish and maintain good rapport with patients and their families
- Ability to train family in follow-through for home therapy programs; home visiting as necessary
- Ability to communicate clearly on a professional basis with physicians and work cooperatively with a variety of health care professionals
- Basic knowledge of requirements in processing for third-party payors
- Ability to clearly write progress notes, discharge plans, and other written reports as requested
- Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate the scheduling of patients in assigned areas of responsibility
- Ability to organize time
- Ability to be flexible and cooperative
- Ability to verbally communicate pertinent information and basic knowledge of the profession for training and educating other hospital service personnel
- Ability to organize training material
- Skill in organizing written material
- Knowledge of appropriate information required for patient and supply record keeping
- Ability to perform fundamental computer tasks. Skills to manage computer files, word processing, spreadsheets, and databases
- Must hear and speak well enough to communicate with patients and staff throughout the day
- Must possess the physical strength to assist with patient mobility
- Must possess sufficient mobility to traverse the distances required to serve patients throughout the institution
- Must see well enough to observe patient reactions and read relevant monitors, relevant device settings, and relevant written information such as the patient's medical record

Department Overview The primary purpose of the Joint Venture Rehabilitation Hospital is to provide a full range of rehabilitation services designed to restore patients to their optimal functional capacity. The hospital is a 52-bed facility located on the Sacramento Medical Center campus, equipped with leading-edge amenities and adaptive units where patients can practice activities of daily living. The hospital also includes a 12-bed brain injury unit and four private rooms for bariatric patients. POSITION INFORMATION

Work Environment
