Intern - Test Process Firmware Engineer - Summer 2026

The Test Process and Firmware Engineering organization is hiring a Firmware Engineering Intern at our Shakopee or Longmont Design Center. The test process firmware team is responsible for the design, development, testing and debug of the entire suite of test process firmware modules that provide calibration, characterization, setup and screening capabilities for hard drives during the factory process, and this responsibility extends from advanced feature development and technology development plans early in program life cycles, all the way through program qualification. The team collaborates very closely with multiple groups within the company, including core team test process representatives, design engineering functional teams, controller firmware development teams, and factory test process development teams.

The Intern position will focus on one or two projects for the duration of the internship. Duties of this role will include, but are not limited to:

• Design, Develop, Test and Integrate new Test Process features into Hard Disc Drive products.
• Work closely with HDD Test Process engineers to develop tools that will be instrumental in the code development life-cycle.
• Get involved in challenging projects and gain exposure to software engineering best practices.
• Participate in requirements gathering and be responsible for developing, debugging and deploying these tools.
• Contribute to cross functional teams.
• Present recommendations to the team.

• Ability to solve complex and dynamic problems.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with confidence in presenting to groups.
• Comfortability with and interest in working in fast paced environment of tech industry.
• Self-motivated with desire to learn.

• Base knowledge or experience working with embedded firmware and/or Python code, experience developing (design, implementation, debug).
• Analytical skills
• Experience using code development tools (emulators, trace, version control, compilers, linkers, analyzers)
• Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent and returning to school in Fall 2026

The estimated base wage range for this position is $22.00 - $35.00/hr. The individual base wage is based on work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Seagate also offers Interns 12 paid holidays and a minimum of 48 hours of paid sick leave. The benefits for this position are based on a 24 to 40-hour-per-week schedule for a full calendar year and may differ depending on work location and tenure with the Company.
