Position Overview

As an Infrastructure Operations Engineer, you will play a crucial role in maintaining and optimizing our data center operations. You will be responsible for managing and supporting our VMware environments, Dell compute and storage equipment, Windows & Linux operating systems, and various data center equipment. This position requires a proactive and detail-oriented individual with a strong technical background and a passion for on-premise infrastructure engineering and promoting operational excellence.

Please note: this position requires candidates to live within a commuting distance from our data center based in Kansas City, MO.

Key Responsibilities:

  • VMware Management: Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot VMware environments to ensure optimal performance and availability.

  • Dell Compute and Storage Equipment: Manage and support Dell servers and storage solutions, including installation, configuration, and maintenance.

  • Data Center Equipment: Oversee the Kansas City operation and maintenance of data center equipment, including power, cooling, and networking components.

  • Monitoring and Optimization: Enhance monitoring tools and practices to proactively identify and resolve infrastructure issues with automation.

  • Documentation: Write and maintain comprehensive, accurate, and up-to-date documentation of infrastructure configurations, procedures, and policies.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including IT, security, and development, to support business objectives and ensure seamless operations.

  • Incident Response: Respond to and resolve infrastructure-related incidents and outages in a timely manner.

  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices to enhance infrastructure efficiency and reliability.

Qualifications:

  • Ideally, Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

  • Hybrid role with weekly / daily travel to Kansas City as needed.

  • 3-5 years of experience in Infrastructure Operations, Systems Engineering, or a related field.

  • High Proficiency in one or more of the following: VMware, Dell compute and storage equipment, fibre channel zoning for SANs, Windows operating systems, Linux operating system distros (RHEL) and data center equipment.

  • Strong understanding of networking concepts including, but not limited to tcp, udp, dns, iscsi, vlans, fibre channel, vDS (Virtual Distributed Switches), and vSS (Virtual Standard Switch) in VMware vSphere.

  • Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex infrastructure issues with attention to detail.

  • Strong understanding of infrastructure best practices and industry standards.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with team members and stakeholders.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.

  • Agile/Scrum project methodologies

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Relevant certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate, Red Hat Certified System Administrator, VMware Certified Technical Associate (or higher), and Dell Certifications related to Servers and Storage

  • Experience with Compute and Storage Capacity Management

  • Experience with scripting language PowerShell in concert with PowerCLI for VMware, and Dell Powerstore modules.

  • Experience with VMWare Aria Operations
