Purpose and Scope

The VP Business Strategy and Continuous Improvement is a key strategic leader and operational integrator within the operations organization. This role serves as a trusted advisor to the SVP of Operations, enabling focus on high-impact priorities by managing strategic initiatives, driving operational excellence, and ensuring seamless execution across functions. The VP Business Strategy and Continuous Improvement acts as a central point of coordination and communication, connecting strategy to execution and aligning teams around shared goals while filtering information and ensuring clear messaging between the OLT and the broader organization. In this highly visible role, the person will lead efforts to optimize business processes, enhance operational performance, and foster a culture of continuous improvement and compliance.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Strategic Planning & Execution



  • Collaborate with executive leadership to define and implement strategic initiatives that support operations scalability, compliance, and innovation.
  • Lead cross-functional programs that align with corporate objectives, including capacity expansion, technology transfer, and digital transformation.
  • Monitor and report on strategic KPIs, ensuring alignment with regulatory and business goals.


Operational Excellence



  • Champion lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and other continuous improvement methodologies tailored to pharmaceutical operations.
  • Drive initiatives to improve throughput, reduce deviations, and enhance right-first-time performance.
  • Lead Operational Excellence (OpEx) team, providing direction, coaching and guidance in execution of identified priority initiatives.
  • Promote a culture of quality, safety, and compliance across all manufacturing sites.


Business Process Optimization



  • Evaluate and redesign core manufacturing processes to improve efficiency, reduce cost, and ensure GMP compliance.
  • Partner with Quality, Regulatory Affairs, and IT to implement systems that support data integrity, traceability, and operational transparency.
  • Lead efforts to harmonize SOPs, batch records, and documentation practices across sites.


Leadership & Communication



  • Serve as a key advisor and thought partner to the SVP, facilitating decision-making and strategic alignment.
  • Prepare executive-level communications, dashboards, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Coordinate leadership meetings, track action items, and ensure accountability across teams.


Project Management



  • Lead or support strategic projects such as facility expansions, tech transfers, and digital manufacturing initiatives.
  • Develop project plans, manage cross-functional teams, and ensure timely delivery within budget and compliance parameters.
  • Identify risks and mitigation strategies in collaboration with Quality and Regulatory teams.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities



  • Strong knowledge of GMP, FDA, EMA, and other global regulatory requirements.
  • Proven track record in operational excellence, strategic planning, and cross-functional leadership.
  • Strong knowledge of business transformation frameworks, operational excellence methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma), and performance management tools.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced, complex, and dynamic environment.
  • Exceptional communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to break down silos and promote enterprise-wide thinking.


  • Strong aptitude and experience in Project Management, Systems implementations and Process improvements.
  • Expertise in leading large-scale transformation programs, including digital initiatives, restructuring, and cultural shifts.
  • Skilled at building buy-in, overcoming resistance, and embedding new ways of working.
  • Ability to foster resilience and agility in times of uncertainty or disruption.
  • Skilled at balancing long-term vision with short-term execution priorities.
  • Strong analytical skills to evaluate complex business scenarios and make data-driven recommendations
  • Strong aptitude toward structured business methodologies, statistical tools, organizational skills and perseverance.


Education & Experience



  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, Life Sciences, Finance or related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
  • Lean/Six Sigma Black Belt preferred.
  • Twelve or more years of progressive leadership experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing, operations, strategy or management consulting in highly regulated environments.
  • Proven track record in leading enterprise-wide strategy development and operational improvement.


Working Conditions



  • Working conditions are typical for a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.
  • This position is on-site in Fort Collins/ Windsor, Colorado, with a possibility for a hybrid work arrangement.


Compensation and Benefits



  • Pay range: $300,000 - $350,000
  • Bonus and LTIP eligible position

Tolmar compensation programs are focused on equitable, fair pay practices including market-based base pay and a strong benefits package. The final compensation offered may vary from the posted range based on the selected candidate's qualifications and experience.
