Summary Responsible for providing leadership, technical expertise, and coordination within the echocardiography department. This role involves performing complex echocardiography procedures, supervising technologists, and ensuring high-quality patient care. Does this position require Patient Care? Yes Essential Functions -Provide leadership and guidance to echocardiography technologists, including training, mentoring, and performance evaluations. -Perform a wide range of echocardiography procedures, including transthoracic, transesophageal, stress, and 3D echocardiography. -Ensure accurate image acquisition and interpretation, utilizing advanced techniques as necessary. -Review and analyze echocardiogram images for technical quality and adherence to standards. -Prepare and position patients for echocardiography procedures, explaining the process and addressing any concerns. -Oversee the maintenance and calibration of echocardiography equipment to ensure optimal functionality and image quality. -Collaborate with cardiologists, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to discuss patient cases, provide technical insights, and assist with image interpretation. -Maintain accurate and detailed records of echocardiography procedures, patient information, and findings. Education Bachelor's Degree Diagnostic Medical Sonographer preferred. Associate's Degree Diagnostic Medical Sonographer or equivalent program with a Cardiovascular Technologist Certificate required. Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No. Licenses and Credentials ARDCS or CCI certification required. Experience Echocardiogram Studies Experience 3-5 years preferred. An understanding in cardiac anatomy, physiology and hemodynamic is required. Skills and Abilities Required: Must possess a high degree of technical expertise with the knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology and hemodynamic. Must have analytical ability to perform and analyze complex cardiac pathologies by echocardiography. Must have the ability of producing an initial interpretation to the referring physicians. Difficult and complex cases should be reviewed with the echo supervisor. Must possess manual dexterity sufficient to work with ultrasound transducer and delicate panels on equipment. Must have a good understanding of equipment function, and ultrasound physics. Must have the ability to interact with understanding with patients and staff for smooth lab flow and genuine cooperation. Flexibility is essential here. Technicians also interact with physicians for the purpose of information. Must have the ability to work weekend shifts. Must be able to perform bedside echocardiograms in intensive care units. Must have mastered all the duties and responsibilities of this job description. Strong technical skills and knowledge of echocardiography equipment, image acquisition, and interpretation. Excellent communication skills to interact with patients, healthcare professionals, and staff. Detail-oriented with the ability to maintain accurate records and reports. Ability to work collaboratively and adapt to changing environments.
