Network Engineer III

Apply in-depth knowledge of network technologies to perform and/or lead network engineering projects including system rollouts, upgrades, and infrastructure changes. Conduct analysis, administration, management, and maintenance of computer network systems and data circuits. Analyze, design, install, configure, and repair key systems to meet user specifications. Consult with end users to assess system functionality. Maintain daily performance, monitor network and system performance, and administer security on multiple platforms. Troubleshoot complex problems. Work independently and provide guidance to less experienced network team members.

Job Duties and Responsibilities



  • Consult with users to determine hardware, software, or system functional specifications
  • Work with appropriate business partners when rolling out new systems or system changes to address issues and fix bugs. Perform necessary testing and analysis to ensure system stability before transferring support responsibility to the support desk
  • Work across unified communications, route, switch, wireless, SD WAN, and network security platforms
  • Maintain current knowledge and understanding of security and networking best practices to offer the best solutions and protection to company systems
  • Translate business requirements into network designs and solutions
  • Collaborate with a group of network engineers to deliver new solutions to support manufacturing networking
  • Partner with equipment manufactures and internal customers to test and certify IoT solutions
  • Contribute to the research and design of future generation network roadmaps
  • Provide Tier 2 network engineering escalation support
  • Design and deliver network infrastructure to support new and existing initiatives
  • Translate technical knowledge into support procedures
  • Work alongside site reliability engineers to automate manual activities
  • Collaborate with network hardware and services providers
  • Create and maintain network documentation and reports
  • Communicate with internal customers and present solutions in a non-technical manner
  • Troubleshoot malfunctions of network hardware and software applications
  • Investigate, analyze, recommend, and install enhancements and operating procedures that regulate or enhance network performance
  • Stay current with disaster recovery procedures. Assist in recovery of major systems in the event of a disaster
  • Document project in ADO Wiki including troubleshooting information for technical support
  • Manage trouble tickets when escalated from support group
  • Monitor computer networks using network management and analysis products
  • Identify and resolve moderately complex to complex network problems
  • Monitor and track system performance looking for network slowdowns and bottle necks
  • Administer security by way of access control for all network appliances. Maintain user lists and security logs, and follow up on security violations

Education and Experience



  • Undergraduate degree in computer science, information technology, or related curriculum (or equivalent combination of experience and education)
  • 5 to 8 years of progressive network engineering or related experience preferred
  • Experience with automation platforms and wireless survey tools
  • Certification and/or License - may be required during course of employment


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities



  • Must be willing to travel 25-50%
  • Understanding of network centric programming languages (Python, Java, and JSON data format)
  • Strong understanding of network services and networks such as TCP/IP, OSPF, BGP, EIGRP
  • Strong understanding and knowledge of networking systems such as LAN, firewalls, routers, and wireless
  • Strong understanding of REST API calls and how they function regarding networking systems
  • Able to analyze and evaluate networks, identify issues, and provide solutions to ensure networks are operating efficiently
  • Able to design, implement and troubleshoot Wi-Fi and security infrastructure
  • Able to organize time, energy, and resources effectively to achieve goals (i.e., organizational skills)
  • Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Able to troubleshoot complex network difficulties and problems
  • Able to perform multiple technical and complex tasks
  • Able to review and interpret complex technical information
  • Able to work independently and within a team environment
  • Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously from design to implementation
  • Able to make decisions using own reasoning and judgment
  • Skill in analytical thinking, including research, interpreting data, and analyzing information
  • Knowledge of and skill in Microsoft Office applications
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English
