Summary of Position Functions

The Accountant-I's primary responsibility is to oversee and participate in accounting functions for multiple entities. Will work closely with other accounting associates utilizing hands-on and an in-depth understanding of accounting principles and company practices, and perform other duties as assigned from Controller.

Essential Position Functions

  • Processes A/P invoices and manages A/P vendor files.
  • Manages A/P Inbox and vendor contact information.
  • Processes company credit card expense reports.
  • Reconciles vendor accounts and monthly vendor statements.
  • Assists with check runs, including ACHs.
  • Issues and follows-ups on receipt of lien waivers.
  • Assists with month-end closing functions.
  • Processes year-end 1099's.
  • Sets up, enters, and maintains all projects, vendors, and clients in billing system.
  • Updates A/R collections dashboard and posts cash receipts.
  • Conducts or assists with banking responsibilities including processing and depositing incoming checks and assisting with the payment process.
  • Reconciles the balance sheet.
  • Assists with prepaid insurance, fixed asset depreciation, accrued liabilities, deferred rent, and pre-construction costs.
  • Assists with month end close functions.
  • Completes journal entries.
  • Assists in annual finance audit as requested.

Education and Qualifications

To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university in Accounting or Finance preferred but not required; or one + years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 1+ years in construction accounting preferred.
  • Knowledge of GAAP required.
  • Knowledge of ERP systems required.
  • Job cost accounting experience is a plus.
  • Viewpoint ERP system and work in process (WIP) familiarity experience are a plus.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Written and verbal communication skills are extremely important, along with excellent attention to details, strong organizational skills, and proficiency with Microsoft programs.
  • Ability to answer all inquiries to vendors and clients.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Knowledge of Veregy's services and processes is required which can be obtained through intellect, technical inclination, and dedication to gain such knowledge.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently manage time / workload.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management and staff.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts and percentages.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and tactfully negotiate priority with end users.
  • Ability to work under deadline pressure and extra hours if needed.
