Essential Job Duties |
Primary purpose of the position: Job Coaches support students with intellectual and developmental disabilities (
IDD) enrolled in Elevate, NC State University's Inclusive Postsecondary Education Program. Job Coaches provide individualized support to students in either on-campus or off-campus internship and employment settings, fostering skill development, independence, and successful integration into the workplace. This role involves collaborating with employers, Elevate staff, and Elevate students to support meaningful and inclusive employment experiences.
Working Conditions
- Position involves work on NC State's campus as well as community employment sites.
- Some evening or weekend hours may be required depending on student job schedules.
- Moderate physical activity may be involved (e.g., walking across campus, assisting with certain workplace tasks as needed).

Job Coaches support students with intellectual and developmental disabilities (
IDD) enrolled in Elevate, NC State University's Inclusive Postsecondary Education Program. Job Coaches provide individualized support to students in either on-campus or off-campus internship and employment settings, fostering skill development, independence, and successful integration into the workplace. This role involves collaborating with employers, Elevate staff, and Elevate students to support meaningful and inclusive employment experiences.
Student Support
- Provide direct, individualized coaching to students in internship and job settings to promote independence, confidence, and self-determination.
- Model and reinforce workplace expectations, including professional communication, problem-solving, teamwork, and time management.
- Assist students in understanding job tasks and breaking them into manageable steps using evidence-based tools and resources.
- Support students in developing self-advocacy and self-monitoring strategies to reduce reliance on job coaching over time.
- Facilitate transportation planning and navigation (when applicable) to ensure students can independently access their work environments.
Workplace and Employer Collaboration
- Collaborate with internship and employment supervisors to identify essential tasks, performance expectations, and workplace culture.
- Model appropriate support to employers and coworkers to promote inclusive practices and natural supports within the workplace.
- Monitor student performance and provide feedback to both the student and supervisor to ensure mutual satisfaction and success.
- Address challenges or barriers that may arise, working collaboratively with employers and Elevate staff to develop solutions.
Program and Administrative Support
- Document student progress, workplace performance, and support strategies in alignment with Elevate program procedures.
- Participate in team meetings with Elevate staff and students to discuss student goals, progress, and next steps.
- Support ongoing program evaluation and continuous improvement by providing feedback and maintaining accurate records.
- Ensure compliance with university, program, and employer policies regarding confidentiality, safety, and workplace expectations.

Minimum Experience/Education |
A high school diploma combined with substantial experience in event coordination/administration, demonstrating strong organizational and planning skills
