We are seeking a Research Scientist who will thrive in a collaborative research environment and facilitate research in membrane and membrane protein biophysics. The Columbus research group investigates the structure, dynamics, and function of membrane proteins using a variety of biophysical approaches. We also have numerous collaborations that connect biophysics with physiology and microbiology. We are currently a team of 11 graduate students and a laboratory specialist. The research scientist hired for the position will mentor students in their research projects, facilitate current and future collaborations, conduct their own research project, and write manuscripts and grants. The scientist will work to progress the funded research goals and publish papers within the scope of these research goals. Seven years of experience (including graduate experience) in membrane protein biophysics is also required. Preferred Qualifications: *3+ years of post-PhD experience with proven expertise in membrane and/or membrane protein biophysics demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications *Track record in experimental design and collaborations *Experience with cloning, membrane protein purification, detergents and other membrane mimics, and biophysical techniques such as spectroscopy or scattering methods. The salary and benefits offered will be commensurate with the experience and qualifications of the candidates. APPLICATION PROCEDURE: Apply online at https://jobs.virginia.edu/us and attach a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, and contact information for three references. Please note that multiple documents can be uploaded in the box. APPLICATION DEADLINE: Review of applications will begin on November 11, 2025, but the position will remain open until filled.
