General Summary of Position Provides educational leadership for professional nursing practice in alignment with the mission, vision, values and goals of the Division of Nursing/MedStar Georgetown University Hospital and Magnet designation. Exemplifies and promotes excellence in education, practice, and research through leadership and mentorship of nursing staff and through collaborative multidisciplinary relationships within the medical center, as well as throughout local, regional and national arenas. Uses adult learning principles and instructional strategies to assess, design, implement and evaluate continuing nursing education programs that enhance and promote clinical competency and standards of care. Promotes, disseminates and integrates evidence-based practice, performance improvement, and nursing research into clinical practice. Supports and facilitates certification of clinical nurses. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital's philosophy, policies, procedures and standards Units Pre-Op and Discharge Unit This 64-bay unit supports our busy operating rooms whichdeliver inpatient and outpatient services along the following service lines: orthopedics, neurosurgery, limb salvage, gynecological surgery, otolaryngology, robotics, urology, pediatrics, thoracic, and general surgery. OurPre-Op & Dischargenurses coordinate the pre- and postoperative (Phase II Post-Anesthesia) care of the surgical patient and ensure it is delivered safely in a fast-paced, complex environment.assessing the patient for the appropriateness of discharge home while preparing the patient and loved ones for safe self-care back at home. PACU Phase I (Surgical Pavilion PACUs) The Phase I Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) is comprised of two physical units on floors immediately above and below one another in the brand new Verstandig Pavilion. Each space contains 24 recovery bays which support a total of 31 operating rooms. These units provide immediate postoperative care to inpatient and outpatient surgical patients in accordance with ASPAN standards. The PACU Nurses care for adult and pediatric patients who have undergone a broad range of surgical procedures, with acuity ranging from Ambulatory to Critical Care. 7 West is a 16 -bay Procedural PACU. Nurses on 7 West provide the highest quality Perianesthesia care according to ASPAN standards for patients recovering from a variety of procedures including Interventional Radiology, Bronchoscopy and Cardiac Catheterization.
