Job Summary

To meet the growing needs of the Mayo Laboratory in the Division of Biology and Biological Engineering, we are looking for a passionate and skilled Research Technician to join our team. The successful candidate will assist a multidisciplinary research team to study protein engineering strategies for extracellular vesicle formation as part of a larger effort to develop novel therapies for autoimmune diseases.

Essential Job Duties
  • Molecular biology tasks, including cloning (PCR, gel electrophoresis, sequencing, and validating constructs, etc.) and plasmid preparation.
  • Protein purification (affinity and size exclusion chromatography).
  • Western blotting and SDS-PAGE.
  • Bioconjugations of proteins, ELISAs, and other assays.
  • Transfection and maintenance of mammalian cell lines.
  • General lab duties, including buffer and reagent prep.
  • Maintaining records.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Work on weekends is included in the regular 5-day work week.
Basic Qualifications
  • BA or BS in Biology or related field.
  • At least one year of experience in a biology or chemistry research laboratory.
  • Mammalian cell culture experience.
  • Protein purification experience.
  • Knowledge of buffer prep and calculations.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written).
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to work on weekends.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Background in immunology, molecular biology, or structural biology.
  • BSL-2 experience.
  • Transfection and maintenance of mammalian or yeast cell lines.
  • Previous experience working with mice or other murine animal models.

  • Experience collecting and processing diagnostic samples.
  • Experience receiving and feeding animals.
  • Experience administering drugs and other treatments.
  • Animal husbandry experience.
  • Experience performing daily health observations and completing reports.

Hiring Range

$25.25 - $30.75 Per Hour

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
