General Information:

The Counseling Center (CC) at James Madison University (JMU) is accepting applications for an Intake/Crisis Clinician.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Intake/Crisis Clinician is an 11-month continuing position. This position provides intake and crisis assessment within a well-established walk-in system to students experiencing emotional/psychological distress through both in-person contacts and phone interactions and subsequent referral to clinically indicated services. The position will also interface with the JMU community to provide consultation to students, faculty, staff and others who are concerned about the distressed, unusual, problematic, or potentially harmful behavior of others. Further, the position may provide training and supervision in support of the Counseling Center's robust training programs. Depending upon Center needs and/or clinician interest, the position may provide brief counseling to a small case load of clients.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:



  • The successful candidate must have a masters degree in counseling or social work or a doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology and be licensed or license eligible as a licensed professional counselor, licensed clinical social worker, or licensed clinical psychologist in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • At least one year of experience providing crisis care/stabilization services within a college mental health setting.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience completing risk assessments and disposition planning to mitigate safety risks.
  • Experience collaborating with other departments and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrated skill in working well under pressure to prioritize and manage multiple complex clinical situations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proven skills of warm, trusting, and respectful care towards colleagues.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage the professional demands of the role while maintaining positive and healthy perspectives and relationships.
  • Self-motivated and self-directed display of high professional standards and practice.
